BROCKPORT ARTS FESTIVAL – August 10 & 11
The Kids Walk Relay Race, part of Brockport Arts Festival, attracted 25 children, ages 6 to 12. The event was sponsored by Walk! Bike! Brockport, a not for profit local volunteer organization. The relay race is 50 yards for each child 6 to 9 years of age; 100 yards for children ages 10 to 12. Contestants carry a carrot in hand – the baton – which is handed off to his or her partner. This year, each contestant received a certificate of participation, and an apple donated by Robb Farms. In addition, each contestant received a new bicycle helmet made available by BISCO. Twenty-five proud children walked away from the relay race sporting a new bicycle helmet and a certificate recognizing their participation. Adults shown above are (l to r) Erik Duncan, Joan Fenton and Emory Morris. Provided photo.
At the conclusion of the Brockport Arts Festival, visitors gathered along the canal for the Duck Derby, a race that starts at the Main Street canal lift bridge. Here visitors to the festival watch thousands of plastic ducks drift along the Erie Canal to the finish line. There were prizes for both the first five ducks to cross the finish line, as well as the last five.
