Arts and Cultural Grants support Brockport Summer Arts events

Summer SerenadeThe Greater Brockport Development Corporation is presenting its annual Summer Serenades on ten Thursday evenings and a new Sundays on the Canal, on nine Sunday afternoons. All events will take place outdoors on the bank of the historic Erie Canal at Brockport’s Welcome Center, 11 Water Street, just off Main Street. These are free to the public through the support of the New York State Folklore Society*, a Decentralization Program grant **, and private local donations.

The Summer Serenades, June 26 through July 31 at 7 p.m. and August 7 through 28, at 6:30 p.m. feature music groups highlighting country and classic rock to R&B, Big Band, Jazz and Bluegrass. Umoja African Drummers with FuturPointe Dance perform on August 14.

Sundays on the Canal, July 6 through August 31, at 1 p.m. features international performing artists. Poet William Heyen and others open the series on July 6, and are followed by the Garth Fagan Dance Company School Ensemble, Papalotl Mexican Folkloric Dance School, Ghanaian drummers, Broadway on the Canal, Grupo Cultural Latinos en Rochester. Fever Pitch, a barbershop quartet, will complete the summer season on August 31.

Residents and visitors are invited to stroll through historic downtown Brockport, visit the numerous interesting shops and eateries, grab a frozen yogurt or ice cream and join the fun. Picnics are welcome. The Farmers Market is on Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed immediately by a performance at the Welcome Center.
