July Events at the Transportation Museum

July is heating up with several events at the New York Museum of Transportation.
Sunday, July 5, is Military Appreciation Day. All active-duty military and veterans will receive half-price admission on July 5, 2026, in celebration of our nation’s 250th birthday. Please bring a military ID or a driver’s license with veteran status. For the kids, there will be a free scavenger hunt, with prizes, that illustrates transportation changes over the nation’s 250-year history.
Trains and Trolleys at Twilight is set for Saturday, July 11. It’s an old-time trolley park with live music, refreshing ice cream, and lawn games. Getting to the park is a unique experience: riding a real freight train connecting to a century-old vintage trolley car. Reservations are required at rochestertrainrides.com/event/july-trains-trolleys-at-twilight/.
Sunday, July 26, is Velocipede Day. Try your hand at operating a railroad velocipede (pictured) in the safety of the museum’s railroad tracks. The 1890s velocipede was once used on railroads by supervisors and track inspectors. Under careful supervision, you can take a seat, grab the handles, and row your way up the line. Adults and kids are welcome to try. It’s just like rowing a boat.
The New York Museum of Transportation is located at 6393 East River Road in Rush, and is open Sundays only, from late May through October, and again during the Christmas holidays. For information, visit www.nymtmuseum.org or call 585-533-1113.
