Autumn's in the air at Hilton Apple Fest
Each fall, the people from throughout the area and beyond celebrate the autumn season with a special community celebration, Hilton Apple Fest. This year, the Apple Fest will take place on Saturday, September 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, October 1 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the grounds of the Hilton Community Center located on East Avenue in the village of Hilton. more

Canal Corporation extending fall hours of operation
The Canal System will be open for business an additional two hours - from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. - through Sunday, October 15. The extended hours will allow boaters along the 524-mile Canal System to enjoy two additional hours per day of cruising on the historic waterday during the peak fall foliage season in New York. more

Police chief contract subject of discussions
"You go to a dentist for a toothache, when you need surgery you go to a doctor, and when you have something as touchy as the police chief contract you need to go to a specialist," resident Linda Borrayo said to board members. "Leave the decision on the chief's contract up to a judge. No matter the outcome, I would wholeheartedly accept it." more

Rotary District 7120 Governor meets with Area 9 clubs
Rotary District Governor Jim Holden met with about 90 Area 9 club members at a Lodge-on-the Green dinner meeting to discuss local, district, and international Rotary goals for the 102nd year of Rotary. more

RPO's competition looking for high school music stars
Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra's upcoming Search for a Star competition will spotlight eight to 10 of the most talented vocal and instrumental performers in grades 10-12 to live out their dream on the stage at the Eastman Theatre. more

Fifty two people participated in the 4th annual Tour de Brockport and 88 merchants supported the walkers by helping them find the object in their store and provided gift certificates valued at $726.52. more

ABVI Construction planned in Sweden
Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI) will be constructing two new Goodwill stores. The steel structures with brick facing will be located on Transit Way in the Town of Sweden and Ridge Road in the Town of Webster. more

Recognized for outstanding service
The Village of Holley recognized two citizens and two firefighters for outstanding service to the community and bravery. more

Retiring officers
The Orleans County Sheriff's Office lost a combined total of 54 years of service as a result of the retirements of Chief Deputy Raymond Emerson and Correction Officer Susan Emerson. Ray joined the sheriff's office as a correction officer on March 19, 1979. more

Sculpture toppled
Vandalism is suspected in the destruction of the newly installed wrought iron sculpture in Remembrance Park in the Village of Brockport. Jennifer Hecker's, "The Roots and the Reasons" sculpture was installed and dedicated on September 10. more

Taser demonstrations
Assemblyman William Reilich attended a demonstration session on the Taser X26 device. Reilich presented grant funds to the Brockport Police Department to purchase the Tasers. more

J. Dennis Kirst Memorial sign dedication at B-B CSD
As a way to honor former school Superintendent J. Dennis Kirst who died unexpectedly in August 2002, a memorial fund was established in his name by the Byron-Bergen Central School District. more

SUNY Brockport ranks high with students
SUNY College at Brockport students ranked college food service, campus center/student union and student radio station number one among all 27 SUNY campuses in the 2006 Student Opinion Survey. The survey is administered every three years. Forty-two undergraduate classes were randomly selected, and 915 students responded (80 percent response rate). more

Hunters that are engaged in hunting in and around water should be just as aware of boating and hypothermia issues as the average recreational boater. In fact, those hunters that use boats as platforms from which to hunt are boaters. more

Collier, Saints improve to 3-0
Averin Collier ran for 207 yards and three touchdowns as Churchville-Chili held off a stubborn Hilton team 40-29 in high school football. more

Golden Eagles off to 4-2 start
Tied 1-1 at half-time with the fifth ranked team in the country before losing 3-1, SUNY Brockport's women's soccer team rebounded with a 2-1 win the next day against New Paltz to improve their record to 4-2 on the young 2006 season. more
