The congregation of Brockport United Methodist Church has a new spiritual leader. The Reverend Karen Snyder was appointed pastor by Bishop Violet Fisher, bishop of Rochester. Snyder began her assignment on Sunday, July 1. She succeeds The Reverend Sinnathamby Thevanesan. more

More than 2,000 tour replica schooner
Lois McClure, the 88-foot replica of an 1862 schooner arrived on Friday, August 3 in Brockport and left August 6 after close to 2,300 visitors toured the schooner. more

Outdoor recreation and tourism in Orleans County get boost
The Assembly Republican Agriculture, Tourism and Outdoor Recreation Task Force heard from business owners and recreational organizations during a forum in Waterport aimed at protecting and promoting the outdoor sporting industry in Orleans County and around the state. "Fishing is one of the most popular activities in both Orleans and Genesee counties," said Assemblyman Steve Hawley (R,I,C-Batavia). "Outdoor sports are a major factor in bringing new tourism to our area and helping with our local economy. I appreciate the opportunity to host today's forum and I am fully committed to addressing the concerns and ideas of our local sports enthusiasts when we return to Albany." more

"Scissors" take the win in Summer Celebration event
Food, fun, and fireworks were a few of the highlights from the Town of Parma's Summer Celebration held on August 3 and 4. This year's celebration included a variety of food booths, carnival-style games, live entertainment from two local bands, a 70 foot children's obstacle course and a cruise-in auto show. more

The Civil War is remembered during the weekend of August 18 and 19 at Hamlin Beach State Park. Re-enactors, living camps, military demonstrations, lectures and a night battle will be part of this weekend highlighting the history of the Civil War. more

Blankets for children in need
Prior to the school year ending, Brockport High School student Ja'Daiza Johnson wanted to do something to help others. She began making blankets for Project Linus, a volunteer organization that provides security blankets to comfort children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or in need. more

C-C’s new superintendent comes home to take the helm
She wanted her parents to hear the excitement so she stood before their graves in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Churchville to tell them about it. Dr. Pam Kissel was getting ready to head into an interview that would change the course of her life. more

Test scores up, taxes down in Holley
A report on June Regents exam results and increased state aid spell good news for Holley students and district residents, according to district representatives. Last year, the Holley Central School District took an aggressive approach to student achievement by implementing a strategic action plan. June Regents exam results indicate the plan is working - Holley students surpassed last year's percentage passing in seven out of 10 tested areas. more

Former Spencerport runner sets course record in area 5K
On Saturday, July 28, the Churchville-Chili cross country teams hosted the 2nd annual James B. Francis/Andrea Kofahl Memorial 5K race. The race, held at Black Creek Park, is in honor of two former Churchville athletes. Eighty-eight runners and dozens of volunteers showed up. more

NASF/Pony Softball play annual All-Star game
The NASF/Pony fastpitch softball league held its annual all star game in Spencerport on Monday, July 30. Each of the league's eight teams sent four young women to compete. The all stars were chosen by their peers. The league includes teams from Brockport, Chili, Hilton, Holley and Spencerport. more
