Churchville area without power 36 hours

Brockport schools looking at staffing cuts
While officials in the Brockport Central School district are not facing the anticipated $2.2 million shortfall in state aid, they still must make up a deficit of about $800,000. more

Hilton students selected for All-State, All-County honors
Hilton music students have distinguished themselves in several music festivals, concerts and competitions recently. N.Y.S. School Music Association Area All-State participants held at the Eastman Theatre last fall were Hilton High School and Merton Williams Middle School students: Michael Hughson, All-State Mixed Chorus; Sarah Mattison, All-State Women's Chorus; Zach Lemcke, All-State Symphonic Band; Ashley Sullivan, All-State Band; Jeremy Wilson, alt. Martin, Roberts poised for quantum leap
With President William Crothers stepping down after more than 20 years at the helm, Roberts Wesleyan College was able to fill the void from within. John A. Martin, who came to the college in 1996 as senior vice president and provost, has been appointed president of the college and Northeastern Seminary. more

Orleans County American Legion offers nursing scholarship
The Orleans County American Legion will be making a Nursing Scholarship available to an Orleans County resident who will graduate from high school in June, 2002. The recipient will be chosen by a committee comprised of a representative from each Legion Post. more

Registration deadline set for ACT exam
College-bound high school students can take the ACT Assessment April 6. The registration postmark deadline is March 1. Late registration postmark deadline is March 15 (an additional fee is required for late registration). more

Spencerport concert and barbecue celebrate Music in our Schools
Spencerport's annual Music in Our Schools Month Districtwide Instrumental Concert and Chicken Dinner takes place on Thursday, March 7 from 5 to 9 p.m. All of the district's bands and jazz ensembles will perform in three locations at Cosgrove Middle School. A variety of musical styles, including pop, jazz and marches, will be featured throughout the casual evening. This popular concert is free and open to the public. more

Blue Devils whitewash Saints
Seven forfeits, two pins, two technical falls and three decisions led the Brockport Blue Devils to a 76-0 sweep over Churchville-Chili in high school wrestling January 29. more

Brockport Men win 20th of the season
SUNY Brockport got revenge against the team that provided it with its only defeat. The Golden Eagles improved to 20-1 with a 79-72 home victory over Buffalo State February 5 in front of a season-best 1,168 at Tuttle North Gymnasium in Brockport. more

Brockport's Pee Wee team wins in Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh was the charm for Brockport's Pee Wee Tier II Travel team. Following a loss to Tonawanda on Friday, they bounced back and won Saturday, defeating the Rocky River Pirates from Ohio. more

Dedicated volunteer brings support to sports teams
Bob Dennis, alias Pop, of Spencerport, volunteered over 1,200 hours to the Spencerport sports program last year. He works with the modified, junior varsity and varsity football teams under Coach Tony Lipani and with the varsity wrestling team under Coach Bill Jacoutot. Nicknamed Pop by Coach Jacoutot, Bob Dennis started volunteering with the teams after he retired from Wegmans in 1994. more

Holley Wrestling Club registration, first session Feb. 25
The Holley Wrestling Club will begin on Monday, February 25 at the Holley Elementary School, for any Holley Central school district students in grades 3-8. John J. Grillo, the head wrestling coach, along with several Holley Club coaches and members of the high school team, will direct this club. The Holley Recreation Department sponsors the club. more

Six pins lead Kendall
Jeff Chippendale (103 lb.), James Kurstein (119 lb.), Torry Tooley (130 lb.), Rich Williams (171 lb.), David Warren (215 lb.) and Nick Carter (275 lb.) registered pins for the Kendall Eagles as they defeated Byron-Bergen 49-26 in high school wrestling January 29. more

Western Eagles hold registration
Eighteen members of the Western Eagles youth football teams started their 2002 season early by attending the Martin Luther King Day Football Clinic, held on January 21, at the Total Sports Experience, 880 Elmgrove Road. more
