DePaul and the Health Association merge organizations
DePaul and the Health Association have agreed to merge the two organizations that have collectively been serving people in need in the community for over 130 years. DePaul is a private not-for-profit agency founded in 1958 that provides residential and treatment services to the elderly, persons with a mental illness, and those with a history of homelessness. more

Hamlin Fire Department receives state grant
For the past 40 years, the fire department has used a pavilion-style building to host their annual carnival, which serves as their biggest fundraiser of the year. Additionally, the grounds play host to the state's fourth-largest dog show once a year, accommodating up to 60 campers on 22 acres of land, according to a press release from Nesbitt's office. more

Hilton Lions honor member

Kendall historical marker marks Norwegian settlement
A new historical marker will be unveiled at the Lake Ontario end of Norway Road in Kendall at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 16. It will commemorate the first settlement of the first group of Norwegian immigrants to North America. more

Kendall Town Historian Joette Knapp will be giving a talk on not only the history of Kendall this coming Wednesday, but will be speaking specifically on the early Norwegian settlements in the town. more

New life-saving technologies in place
for Gates Volunteer Ambulance Service

Gates Volunteer Ambulance Service (GVAS) is putting three new life-saving technologies into service: a program of providing advanced medications to patients before they arrive at the hospital; a device that allows life-saving oxygen to be supplied under direct pressure and a resuscitation device that performs automated chest compression during CPR. more

B-B receives state Learn and Serve grant
For the second year, Byron-Bergen Central School District has been awarded a Learn and Serve America grant from the New York State Education Department in Albany. This funding will support the continuation of the Byron-Bergen Emergency Response Team (BBERT), a volunteer organization of students in grades seven to 12 who are trained to staff a Red Cross emergency shelter at the middle/high school in time of need. more

Byron-Bergen hosts fifth grade orientation
Fifth grade orientation was held Tuesday, September 7 at Byron-Bergen Middle School. This event is held to help students get acclimated to a new building. Fifth grade is the first year in middle school for students and that means switching classes and using lockers in a new, bigger building for the first time. more

Parent visitation day set for Merton Williams Middle School
Hilton's Merton Williams Middle School will hold a Parent Visitation Day Thursday, October 7, at the school. Parents will follow their child's class schedule throughout the day and have the opportunity to attend workshops at 7:25 a.m. and again at 9:41 a.m. on "Bullying - What Parents Need to Know." more

Senior Nick Droegmoeller scored three goals and added an assist and Dominic Colaprete added two goals as Spencerport trounced Greece Olympia 6-1 in boy's soccer. The Rangers are ranked first in Section Five and lead their division with a 5-0-1, 6-1-1 record. more

Hawks win on Colby's late goal
Down 1-0 at half-time, Holley scored twice in the second half, including the game winner from Ashley Colby with three minutes remaining, to defeat Kendall 2-1 in the first round of the Kendall Sports Boosters Soccer Tournament. more

have successful seasons

Holley's U12 girls team coached by Shelly Troup came in first place this season (9-1-2) in the RDYSL soccer league. Also, Holley's U17 girls team coached by Tim Bopp and U12 boys coached by Dan Orbaker came in third place. more

Johnson scores twice in Blue Devil loss
Senior Dan Johnson scored touchdowns in both halves, but Brockport was unable to hold off Pittsford in a 45-20 defeat in high school football. more
