Stage & Story: At The HeART of Preservation

Celebrating A Rochester Landmark

Story: At The HeART of Preservation, on Wednesday, May 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the historic RBTL West Herr Auditorium Theatre in Rochester.

This year’s event will spotlight the rehabilitation of the Auditorium Theatre—one of the Landmark Society’s 2018 Five to Revive sites—highlighting its cultural, architectural, and community significance. Originally constructed as the Masonic Temple, the building’s cornerstone was laid in 1928, and it was dedicated in 1930. Today, it stands as one of Rochester’s most distinctive examples of Art Deco, featuring ornate plasterwork, stylized decorative elements, and the Wurlitzer 4/23 theatre organ (opus 1951), a rare instrument with a storied history.

Guests attending Stage & Story will enjoy an immersive evening inside the newly renovated Floreano Room, featuring live entertainment, passed hors d’oeuvres, curated charcuterie displays, and a selection of beer and wine. The event brings together preservation advocates, arts supporters, and community members to celebrate the intersection of historic preservation and the performing arts.

“This event embodies the spirit of preservation as a living, breathing part of our community,” said Brandon W. Brooks, Program Director at The Landmark Society. “The Auditorium Theatre is not just an historic structure—it’s an active cultural hub, and we’re excited to showcase its continued evolution.”

Tickets are $65 per person and must be purchased in advance. Sales will be available online through May 15, 2026, at www.landmarksociety.org. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

Don’t miss this special opportunity to experience one of Rochester’s architectural treasures while supporting the ongoing mission of preservation.
