Greece Certified as an Age-Friendly Community
The Town of Greece has officially been certified as an Age-Friendly Community following the adoption of a resolution by the Greece Town Board. The certification aligns the town with both the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities and the World Health Organization’s Global Network for Age-Friendly Cities and Communities – two internationally recognized organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life for older adults.
“This certification reflects our ongoing commitment to making Greece a place where residents of all ages can thrive. Our older adults have helped build this community, and they deserve a town that actively works to meet their needs,” said Supervisor McCann.
As part of the resolution, the Department of Planning and Economic Development has been directed to develop a comprehensive Age-Friendly Action Plan within one year. This Action Plan will outline specific goals, programs, and initiatives to improve services, infrastructure, and community resources for older residents in Greece. Age-friendly communities are designed to support healthy aging by addressing key areas such as accessible transportation, housing, outdoor spaces, social participation, civic engagement, and community support.
More information about the Age-Friendly Community initiative will be made available as the Action Plan is developed. Residents wishing to learn more or provide input are encouraged to contact the Department of Planning and Economic Development.
