The Brockport Central School District recently welcomed two new staff members: Michael Newman, Director of Technology, and Carey Belair, assistant principal at Oliver Middle School.

Director of Technology Michael Newman

Newman brings extensive experience in educational leadership, instructional technology, and district technology operations. He served as the Director of Technology for Gananda Central School District, where he led a wide range of initiatives focused on cybersecurity, technology infrastructure modernization, long-range technology planning, data privacy compliance, systems integration, and operational efficiency. Prior to his work in Gananda, Newman served as Director of Technology for Newark Central School District, further strengthening his expertise in leading districtwide technology systems and innovation.

Newman’s experience spans educational leadership, technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, data privacy, professional learning, strategic planning, and continuous improvement. District representatives say his ability to build strong relationships, engage stakeholders, and align technology initiatives with district priorities will be a tremendous asset as the district continues to expand innovative learning opportunities while maintaining secure, reliable, and efficient technology systems.

The Board of Education approved Newman’s appointment on Tuesday, July 7, and he began his new role on August 10, 2026.

Oliver Middle School Assistant Principal Carey Belair

Belair brings more than two decades of educational experience, including leadership roles as assistant principal, summer school principal, project implementation specialist, instructional coach, and classroom teacher. Most recently, she served as assistant principal at Thurgood Marshall Middle School in the Rochester City School District, where she led student management initiatives, supported instructional programs, supervised and evaluated staff, facilitated professional development, and worked extensively with restorative practices and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS).

Throughout her career, Belair has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to fostering student success, supporting educator growth, engaging families as partners, and cultivating positive, inclusive school communities. District representatives say her collaborative leadership style, commitment to continuous improvement, and expertise in instructional leadership, data-informed decision-making, and student-centered support systems will be tremendous assets to Oliver Middle School and the district.
