Eagle Scout helps Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance

A Spencerport Boy Scout recently led construction of a locker room at Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance headquarters. The much-needed project was designed to help with recruitment of more volunteers, and benefit the current ones, and earned 16-year-old Dylan Brown the Eagle Award.

A member of Troop 04 in Spencerport, Brown was aware for the challenges the corps faces recruiting and retaining volunteers and the need for personal storage space was an amenity that SVA leaders had on their wish list. “When I started thinking about what kind of Eagle Project I could do, I thought about what an important resource the SVA is for our community and I wanted to help them in any way I can,” Brown, a junior at Spencerport High School, said.

SVA Chief Dan DiSalvo suggested renovating a portion of the basement into the locker room and Brown began securing funds and donations to cover the cost of the project for the volunteer corps. Brockport Lowe’s, Pro Carpet, Buckingham Properties and Sherwin Williams of Brockport supported the effort, along with several other scouts and leaders in the troop.

Over the past two weeks, scouts restored, painted and installed lockers, flooring was replaced, walls were painted and shelves and benches were installed.

Brown says he is grateful for the generosity of the community businesses and his fellow scouts, friends, parents and leaders who shared their time and talent. “It is absolutely a team effort and I’m very grateful for all their hard work.”
