Medical goods donated to Grenada hospital
Eric R. Johnson, M.D., Lakeside Memorial Hospital general surgeon, Assemblyman Charles A. Nesbitt, and Lakeside Health System recently coordinated an effort to send needed medical equipment to Grenada to help furnish a newly constructed 200-bed hospital facility. more

Monroe County to add 20th park to system
Monroe County Executive Jack Doyle has announced the proposed acquisition of Devil's Cove in Irondequoit Bay to make the 20th park in the Monroe County Park System and saving one of the county's most environmentally sensitive areas from ever being commercially or residentially developed. The name of the new park will be "Devil's Cove Park." more

New Rochester pictorial featured at Parma Museum
Friends of the Parma Museum will host an autograph party on Sunday, December 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Meetinghouse Museum, 460 Parma Center Road. Previous historical publications about the area will be available, plus the newly-published "Rochester Neighborhoods" pictorial by Shirley Cox Husted and Ruth Rosenberg-Naparsteck. more

Spencerport Fire Department planning for future needs
A committee, chaired by Spencerport Fire Chief Chris Wood, is on a fact-finding mission to determine how the department can better get the job done. Specifically, the committee is looking at the "horrific" amount of paper work required by state mandates, Wood said, and dispatching operations. more

State officials planning Route 19 overhaul
State Department of Transportation planners met with Brockport Mayor Mary Ann Thorpe and Sweden Supervisor Buddy Lester last week to discuss the reconstruction of Route 19 from Ellis Drive to East and West Avenues. Although in the planning stage now, actual construction would not take place until about 2005, give or take a couple of years, depending on the state’s funding resources and priorities. more

Sweden adopts 2001 budget with a few changes
The Sweden Town Board adopted the 2001 budget on November 14 making a few minor changes to the preliminary budget presented to taxpayers. more

Three firefighters from Spencerport recognized for bravery in August fire
Three Spencerport fire fighters were recognized at the Rochester Safety Council's Fire Service Appreciation Luncheon for acts of bravery at a fatal house fire on Brower Road in Ogden. more

Tragic accident in Arizona strikes local Kleiman family
Maurice Kleiman and his wife, Liz, of Hollybrook Road, Brockport, recently returned from Kingman, Arizona, following the funeral and burial of Mr. Kleiman's son-in-law, his thirteen-year-old grandson, and his grandson's uncle. The three were killed on November 2, during a hunting trip. more

On most Sundays from late August to mid-December, visitors to Hamlin Beach State Park Area #4 can see a small group of dedicated bird watchers whose activity is so important it has become internationally recognized. more

On Saturday, November 25 (Thanksgiving weekend) at noon at Special Olympics Stadium, the Brockport Golden Eagle football team will host the first-ever NCAA home playoff game for any Rochester/Monroe County college. more

Dawn Carlton placed first in individual competition at the 2000 Eastern National 4-H Round-Up recently held in Louisville, Kentucky. more
