Brockport police investigation complete
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department has completed the investigation of allegations made against members of the Brockport Police Department. In February, Mayor Mary Ann Thorpe requested the sheriff’s department conduct the investigation as Brockport does not have its own internal affairs division. more

Clinics slated for Hepatitis A virus
Cases of hepatitis A through the first quarter of the year in Monroe County are up substantially, prompting health officials to increase efforts to vaccinate persons at high-risk from the viral illness. more

Parma Public Library holds silent auction of watercolor
The Parma Public Library plans a silent auction of an original watercolor donated by local artist, Franz Schwenk. This soft tone painting depicts a weathered barn and outbuildings along a section of the old Hojack Line. more

Churchville resident appointed to BOCES 2 Board of Education
Linda Burlingame, of Churchville, was appointed to the Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Board of Education at the February 27 meeting to fill the unexpired term of William Vanderhoof, who resigned to pursue other interests. more

Hilton Board of Education adopts $45.7 million proposed 2001-02 budget
The Hilton Board of Education voted unanimously (7-0) to adopt the proposed Superintendent's $45.7 million 2001-02 budget proposal at their meeting April 10. The budget proposal represents a spending increase of 5.49 percent over last year, according to district officials. more

Hilton's Crimson Cadets Drumline
wins 4th Percussion Circuit Championship
On Sunday, April 1, the Hilton High School Drumline of the Crimson Cadets Marching Band won their fourth consecutive New York State Percussion Circuit Championship. This was their fifth state title in the last six years. The Drumline also won Best Tenor Line, Best Bass Drum Line, Best Cymbal Line, and Best Pit Ensemble. more

Celebrate spring raptor migration
Celebrate the spring raptor migration at Braddock Bay Park in Greece, a site noted for having one of the world's largest spring hawk migrations. The migration should be at its peak through April 22. more

Open House at Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in Alabama, NY, will be Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. more

Roberts Wesleyan Raiders instruct local girls at basketball clinic
On April 7, the Roberts Wesleyan College women's basketball team hosted one of two clinics for girls and boys at Northstar Christian Academy along with Grace and Truth Youth basketball. The Raiders spent time teaching the 8-12 year olds how to shoot, dribble and pass in several different stations at they got to interact with the college athletes. Mark Palma, director of Grace and Truth Ministries, said, "We were impressed by the Roberts' players passion as they showed great dedication and willingness to teach these young basketball players." more

Spencerport girls place second in first tourney
The Girls Under-9 Travel Team representing the Spencerport Soccer Club placed second in the U-10 Division at their first indoor soccer tournament, at the 2001 March Madness Tournament, hosted by the Stormers Soccer Club. The team competed against other travel clubs from Brighton, Greece and Hilton. more

Student athletes recognized in Kendall schools
On Monday, April 9, Kendall Central School participated in the celebration of National Student-Athlete Day. National Student-Athlete Day was created to honor student-athletes who have pursued excellence both in the classroom and on the playing field, while having made significant contributions to their schools and/or communities. more
