Fire, code enforcement officer file monthly reports
Brockport Fire Chief Gregory Wing reported that since the department has installed career staff, only seven fire and/or ambulance calls have had to be "given away" to other departments for assistance. Prior to the career staff being appointed, more than 50 calls were given away. more

Future plan for Ogden a sketch for growth
The Comprehensive Plan for the Town of Ogden is a framework within which decisions concerning the development of the town can be made in the future. It is not rezoning and is not written in stone. According to Town Supervisor Gay Lenhard, development is inevitable. Therefore, the town needs a plan for this development. It is a "broad-brush kind of thing," she says of the plan. more

The Hamlin Fire District building, located on Lake Road, has had no improvements other than cosmetic updates since it was built in 1979. The Hamlin Fire District will be starting major renovations and improvements to the building in late fall of 2002. more

Brockport's decision to look into the opportunity to acquire a contract and offer exclusive pouring rights to Coca Cola® has sparked some debate and discussion. more

St. Andrews Apartments in Gates project receives funds
Providence Housing Development Corporation announced that the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York has awarded $53,822 toward the development of St. Andrews Apartments, housing for physically challenged and developmentally disabled adults. The award is made through HSBC Bank USA from privately funded Affordable Housing Program of the Federal Home Loan Bank. more

Monroe County is seeking nominations for the 2002 OASIS Role Model Awards. Established in 1993, the awards honor Rochester area seniors who serve as positive role models for their peers in our community. Winners will be named at the annual OASIS Anniversary celebration in October. more

Flower City Open Drum Corps compete July 28
On Sunday afternoon July 28, the Rochester Crusaders Senior Drum Corps and the Rochester Patriots Junior Corps present the Flower City Open Drum & Bugle Corps competition at the University of Rochester's Fauver Stadium. The judged contest starts at 2 p.m. with a pre-show exhibition at 1:30 p.m. more

"Summer Along the Shore" new Greece Museum display
The next exhibit in the Greece Museum will be "Summer Along the Shore" circa 1900 to 1930s. The display will go up July 28 and continue through the fall. more

SUNY Brockport College wins $278,190 grant
Congressman John J. LaFalce (D-29, NY) announced that SUNY Brockport College has been awarded a $278,190 grant under the Department of Education's Talent Search program. With this grant, SUNY Brockport will provide support services to low-income, first generation students over the next four years. more

Legislation helps crack down on identity theft
Assemblymember Susan John (D-Rochester) sponsored legislation (A.4939) that the Assembly recently passed making identity theft a crime punishable by up to seven years in prison, and giving victims the opportunity to seek legal recourse. more

Hilton-Parma seniors travel to Beck's Grove
The Hilton-Parma Seniors will be traveling to Beck's Grove Dinner Theater for an all you can eat buffet and dessert bar, in Blossvale on Wednesday, August 28. Following lunch, there will be a matinee performance of Neil Simon's hit comedy "Barefoot In the Park." There will also be a fast-food stop "on your own" en route home. Buses will leave the Village Community Center rat 8:30 a.m. The cost for this trip is $37, which includes the driver gratuity. more

Brockport golf tournament benefits school scholarship fund
The Agape Physical Therapy Charity Golf Tournament will be held Sunday, July 28, at Hickory Ridge Country Club on Lynch Road in Holley. The event starts at noon with registration and lunch. Tee-off time is 1 p.m. A steak roast dinner and awards start at 6:30. more

The Town of Sweden Recreation Department will be offering two new summer recreation programs at the Sweden/Clarkson Community Center, located at 4927 Lake Road in Brockport. more

Youth programs offered in August
Hamlin Recreation is offering several programs in August for anyone age 8 to adult. A bus trip to a Red Wing baseball game will take place on August 1. Ticket and transportation to the 11:05 a.m. game is $7.50 and a lunch special is available. more
