Fireman appreciation and September 11 Remembrance picnic planned
For many years, Hilton East Assisted Living has hosted an annual Appreciation Dinner in honor of the local Fire Department and emergency volunteer workers. In lieu of last year's September 11 terrorist attack, Hilton East Assisted Living will host this year's event on Sunday, September 8, in remembrance of the one year anniversary where so many firemen, policemen, and volunteers sacrificed their lives. more

Hilton resident works to launch community teen center
Karen Musson, Hilton resident for 20 years, is working to provide a place for local youth who currently have no place to go. Musson is hoping to open a Teen Center that offers recreation opportunities and crisis intervention for children in grades 6-12. more

Homes sought for two animals found in Clarkson home
Two animals were rescued from a home in Clarkson two weeks ago where the owner and another victim were discovered dead. more

Monroe County to mark Sept. 11
Monroe County will hold an official commemoration to remember those lost in the September 11 attacks, honor emergency services personnel who responded heroically to the events, and recognize the American military personnel now fighting the war on terrorism. The public is invited to attend the commemoration, which will be held on the steps of the Monroe County Office Building at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 11. more

The Community Free Library in Holley held its annual End of the Summer Reading Program and Party on August 15. A total of 118 children participated and they read 1,640 books. more

"United Day of Service" to commemorate September 11
Youth Service America and Champions of Hope will sponsor United Day of Service for youth, ages 5-25, on September 11. This day of service will commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the United States by engaging millions of young people in service projects in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. United Day of Service themes are hope, healing, youth leadership, service and patriotism. more

Gillam-Grant Community Center Skate Park to get funding
New York State Assembly Republican Leader Charles H. Nesbitt will be the guest of honor at the ground breaking ceremony for the Gillam-Grant Community Center Skate Park. Assemblyman Nesbitt will present the committee that is organizing the construction of the skate park with a $15,000 check to be used towards Phase I of the project. State Senator Mary Lou Rath and Genesee County Legislator Charles Zambito will also be attending. more

Holley village receives project funds
The Village of Holley will receive a $400,000 Small Cities grant from the federal government to fund a sewer and water main project along State Route 31. more

NYS DEC Hunter Safety course scheduled
Instructors certified by the Department of Environmental Conservation will conduct a Hunter Safety Program September 3, 4 and 7 at Northstar Sportsman's Club. Those interested in attending may register in-person at the Clerk's Office, Town of Parma, 1300 Hilton Parma Corners Road, Hilton from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. more

Softub winners at Brockport Festival
The winners of the Softub spa given by Pettis Pools & Patio as one of the prizes in the BISCO Duck Derby held Sunday, August 11, at the Brockport Art Festival were Leonard and Mary Vanelli of Holley. Funds raised by BISCO benefit the community at large. more

C-C bus driver places in state competition
Churchville-Chili bus driver Gene Ehrmentraut competed in the New York State Area Pupil Transportation Competition held in Albany on July 13. Ehrmentraut placed third in the School Bus Rodeo competing against 41 other drivers from throughout the state. The one-day event included written exams, pre-trip inspections and a drive through an obstacle course. At the awards ceremony, Ehrmentraut was presented with a trophy and a plaque, which will be displayed at the new school district transportation facility. more

C-C Jr. High principal appointed
At its July 23 meeting, the Churchville-Chili Board of Education appointed Daniel A. Teplesky Principal of Churchville-Chili Junior High School. His appointment was effective August 5. more

Cole re-elected president of BOCES 2 board
At the Monroe 2-Orleans Board of Cooperative Educational Services Reorganizational Meeting of the Board of Education July 15, Dan Cole (Holley) was re-elected president of the board and John Abbott (Hilton) was elected vice president. The reorganizational meeting is an annual event required by law to elect or appoint officers who must be elected or appointed annually. more

Spencerport to offer fall Driver Education classes
Students wishing to register for the fall semester driver education class should attend a meeting with a parent or guardian on September 6. The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Board of Education Meeting Room, which is located in the Administration Building at 71 Lyell Avenue in Spencerport. more

SUNY Brockport photographer named photographer of the year
Jim Dusen, manager of photographic services at SUNY College at Brockport, received multiple awards at the 41st Annual Technical Symposium of the University Photographers' Association of America (UPAA). Held at Kent State University (Ohio), June 24-28, Dusen was named UPAA University 2002 Photographer of the Year and received the First Place Award in the Publications Competition/General Publications Group for three SUNY Brockport publications, "Imagine the Possibilities," "Visit at SUNY Brockport" and "Focus on Brockport." more

Former Hilton Kyokushin Karate instructor Sempai George F. Kiefer has returned to teaching after taking a few years off. He is now teaching "Simple Self Defense" courses for the New Sweden/Clarkson Community Center located south of Aldi's grocery store. more
