Experience "Art Ménage" in downtown Brockport
Four Brockport merchants will host art shows on June 2. At The Red Bird Tea Shoppe, 25 Main Street, works of art by local watercolorist Karlene VanDeusen will be displayed. Van Deusen works in acrylics, paints florals and local landscapes. Elizabeth VanDeusen, her daughter, will also have a piece in the show. Andrew Jurman currently displays his photographic landscapes at The Red Bird Tea Shoppe. more

Gates road work to commence
NYSDOT is undertaking a preventative maintenance project to pave Interstate 490 from Howard Rod to Route 204 and State Route 531 from Elmgrove Road to Interstate 490 in the town of Gates this summer. more

On Saturday, May 13, the Hamlin Volunteer Fire Department hosted a class on propane emergencies, sponsored by the Firemen's Association of New York State (FASNY). Members of the Hamlin Fire Department, Caledonia Fire Department and the Pittsford Fire Department participated. more

Wheel Fest overview
Hamlin is gearing up for the 9th annual Wheel Fest being held June 3, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. The day begins with breakfast sandwiches and a cup of coffee served by the Hamlin Lions followed by free entertainment by the Brockport fifth grade band at 10 a.m. and at 11 a.m. the 7th and 8th grade jazz chorus performs. more

'Emergency book sale' at Parma Library
The Parma Public Library is having an emergency, overstocked, everything must go, book sale. It starts at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 12 and will run through Friday, June 16. There will be no special Friends Preview day for this sale. The sale is open to the general public. Every day will be "bag sale day" a price of $2 per bag. more

Library presents 'First Amendment' exhibit
The Hamlin Public Library, in cooperation with the Long Island Coalition Against Censorship, will present an exhibit entitled "Censorship in Schools and Libraries" from June 1 to June 28 at the library. more

Local soldiers recognized
“Operation Local Soldier” was held May 19 at the Merton Williams Middle School in Hilton and it turned out to be very successful. Chaired by Christie Vileria and assisted by Patricia Pirnie, a teacher at Village Elementary School, and Elena Pelcher, a teacher at Northwood School, the purpose was, in Vileria’s words: “Getting to know each other and do something meaningful for the community.” more

NYSDOT replacing guide rail in Sweden
Motorists should expect one-way alternating lane closures controlled by flaggers along Route 31 between Redman Road and Sweden Walker Road (Route 260) beginning Thursday, May 25 for approximately two weeks while work crews replace guide rail. more

Holley senior Jennifer Ham, a student in the dental assisting program at the BOCES 2 Career and Technical Education Center in Spencerport, was awarded a "Make All the Difference" Scholarship for $5,000. more

Holley seniors Ryan Johnstone and Shane Moak took first place in the High School Engineering Competition sponsored by Monroe Community College. more

to teach tolerance through nutrition and wellness

Leo Bernabi School is the recipient of an $890 Teaching Tolerance grant to develop awareness and sensitivity for people who have special food needs. more

Head Coach Jim Vanderhoof announced that Jackie Steubing, of Brockport High School, has signed a national letter of intent to play volleyball at Roberts Wesleyan College. more

Bright Raven Gymnastics of Gates played host to the Dare to Be Great Invitational May 6 and 7. More than 200 gymnasts represented eight teams. more

Next Era Wrestling comes to Brockport with an action-packed blowout event June 17 at the Sweden Clarkson Community Center. more

Saints advance with offense
Churchville-Chili exploded for six runs in the second inning on their way to 17-1 victory Section V softball playoff game over Jefferson-Franklin. The game was shortened to five innings due to the run differential rule. more

Spencerport father and son take to the tracks
In the Baker household, Friday nights are reserved for racing under the lights. Dave Baker and his son, Joshua, of Spencerport, have been racing in kaged go-karts for the past four years. more
