Drainage issues plague Clarkson residents
Poor drainage is an issue facing many residents in the town of Clarkson. Ken Daniels of Ridge Road came before the board at its regular meeting on September 26 to ask for relief from the poor drainage in his yard. "I have standing water in the yard," he said. "My neighbors and I would like to ask for help or consideration from the board on addressing this issue." more

Library hosts censorship exhibit
The Ogden Farmers' Library and the Long Island Coalition Against Censorship sponsor an exhibit, Censorship in Schools and Libraries, which will run at the library from October 2 through October 26. The library is located at 269 Ogden Center Road, Spencerport. more

Spencerport Knights of Columbus Council
receives international recognition

Knights of Columbus Council #7707 of Spencerport is a Columbian Award winner for the 2005-2006 fraternal year. The award is presented for excellence in the sponsorship of programs that serve the church, community, families and youth as well as council members. more

Brockport Firefighters Memorial
figures are being bronzed

The "boys," as Dick Kron, artist and sculptor, affectionately refers to three figures which make up the Firefighters Monument in Brockport, have taken a little road trip in preparation for creating similar figures in bronze. more

Creates winning Apple Fest logo
Pat Clark, chairperson of the Hilton Apple Fest logo contest and vice chairperson of the Apple Fest and Dave McCracken, co-chairperson of the Apple Fest, present the winner of the 2006 logo contest, Jennifer Pringle of Hamlin, with a check for $100 and a sweatshirt featuring her logo. more

Hamlin Public Library accepts bequest
As a teacher, Margaret McGrath understood the value of education and when she passed away, she expressed both her love of education and of her hometown by naming the Hamlin Public Library as a beneficiary in her will. more

Ogden preliminary budget meeting set
Town of Ogden officials will meet to discuss preliminary budget figures for the 2007 budget year. The public hearing will be Wednesday, October 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ogden Community Center. more

Quilting for a cause
The Museum Quilt Guild of Batavia has an active community service program that is made possible with some of the money raised at its semi-annual quilt show, Stitches in Time, being held at the VA Medical Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, October 20 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 21. more

Service to community
Junior Girl Scout Troop 579, from the Black Creek Service Unit in Chili completed their bronze award last spring. For their service project, the Scouts "adopted" the Sunset House hospice and collected items for the home. They also made pillows and lap quilts to donate to the residents of Sunset House. more

The Clarkson Democratic Committee has named Sheldon Meyers as town board candidate. This is Meyers second time running for the town board. more

Holley introduces "Soaring to New Heights"
award for staff and community

For the past year, the Holley Board of Education has been awarding the "Soaring to New Heights" Award to students at the elementary, middle and high school levels who go above and beyond to make their school and community a better place. more

Holley School District seeking input for continuing education program
During the 2006-2007 school year, the Holley Central School District will be launching a Continuing Education Program for the community. The program will be offered in mid-winter (January, February, March) and fall (September, October, November) beginning with the mid-winter session. more

Making friends with words
Every third grade student in Spencerport Central Schools has his or her own dictionary, thanks to the Spencerport Rotary Club. Superintendent of Schools Mary Anne Kermis and Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Dr. Bernadette Skobjak welcomed the Rotarians as they visited the District's four elementary schools on Tuesday, September 19 to distribute the dictionaries. more

Read-a-thon benefits Trolley Depot restoration
Sixty students from Spencerport's Canal View school's Yellow Comets Family Group walked to the Spencerport Trolley Depot on September 27 to hold a Read-a-thon to benefit the restoration of the depot. more

Sweden Center hosts Walk-a-thon
Local students, Lifetime Assistance Seniors, Senior Center volunteers, and staff were all part of the 2nd annual Sweden Senior Center Walk-a-thon on Saturday, September 16. The Senior Center hosted two work sessions involving the community to plan the event and improve it from last year. more

Golis, Ciliberto to score in win
Kara Golis scored in the first half and Jenna Ciliberto found the net in the opening minute of the second half to lead Churchville-Chili to a 2-0 girls soccer victory over visiting Hilton. more

Little skaters
The newly formed Initiation Team within the Tri County Youth Hockey League (formerly Development and PreMite) is off to a great start. First ice time was Saturday, September 23. more

Rangers sweep singles
Spencerport took all four singles matches in straight sets on their way to defeating Gates Chili 6-1 in girls tennis. more

Spencerport sports booster club soccer tournament planned
Spencerport Central Schools will host the 14th annual Spencerport Sports Booster Club Girls' Soccer Tournament on October 6 and 7 at the Spencerport Central Schools soccer stadium. The tournament is named in recognition of the support the Spencerport Sports Booster Club gives each year to the Ranger Athletic program. more

Thursday night lights-out for Webster Schroeder
Coming off a disappointing loss to Churchville-Chili, the Hilton Cadet Football team faced consecutive games against Webster Schroeder and Webster Thomas. more

Wood, Spencerport in four
The Rangers used a strong game at the net and defensively to spearhead a 25-22, 25-20, 20-25, 25-13 win over Churchville-Chili in boy's volleyball. The victory marked the first time in four years Spencerport has defeated the Saints. more
