'Blue Trunk' project brings resources

Imagine your doctor not having access to the Internet or a set of medical reference books? That is the situation faced by many health professionals in many countries around the world, including Africa. As a way to bring necessary information to the medical professionals in those areas, the World Health Organization (WHO) developed a Blue Trunk Library project through which donations are solicited to fill a blue metal trunk with books on major health subjects. more

On November 26 at about 6:34 a.m., Brockport Police Sergeant Douglas Ziegler and Officer Michael DeToy responded to The Lakeside Memorial Hospital, in Brockport, for a report of a person being treated for multiple stab wounds to the neck and shoulder. more

"Project Prepare" is an initiative of the Monroe County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). Its purpose is to advise and assist area residents in planning and preparing for an emergency. more

At its November 28 meeting, the Hilton Central School District Board of Education heard a presentation from the Excel Project Planning Committee led by Hilton Assistant Superintendent for Business Steven Ayers regarding a proposal to take a $9 million bond vote referendum to Hilton district voters in late January. more

One assessment roll to serve Village of Brockport and Town of Sweden

Repairs, renovations needed in
Holley school buildings, say district officials

Because the State Education Department requires districts submit a five-year plan for facilities improvements, officials at the Holley Central School District went through and compiled a list of "wants and needs" for its buildings. more

With less than a month to go, Town of Riga officials spent a majority of the regular board meeting on November 28 going through -- line-by-line -- items in the proposed 2007 town budget. more

Spencerport Station One proposal gets review at information meeting
Location, size and cost were some topics raised at the information meeting about the Spencerport Fire District’s plans to rebuild Station One on Lyell Avenue in the village. Over 100 people attended the November 30 meeting at Spencerport High School. more

SUNY Brockport to receive energy efficiency projects grant
State University of New York at Brockport has received a $75,000 grant to assist in financing a $5.8 million energy efficiency project at the Harrison Dining Hall facility on campus. "Our state university system, including SUNY Brockport, should be commended for being at the forefront when it comes to energy efficiency," said Senator Maziarz, who announced the grant award. more

Lions golf tournament aids Churchville FD
A golf tournament hosted by Churchville Lions Club in September at the Churchville golf course raised $4,500 for the Churchville Volunteer Fire Department for the proposed fire station construction project. more

Recycle cell phones at Seymour Library
Americans replace their cell phones every 12 months. Cell phones contain toxic substances like arsenic, cadmium, lead and zinc which can leach into groundwater from landfills and form highly dangerous dioxins if they are incinerated. The cadmium from a single phone is capable of polluting 158,000 gallons of water. more

Holley fourth grader Josh Porter and sixth grader Justin McMillion received November's Soaring to New Heights Award at the Holley Board of Education meeting after being nominated by their principal, Lee Ann Cervini. more

Future Business Leaders inducted
The Brockport High School Future Business Leaders of America conducted its second annual induction ceremony. Members were inducted into the organization during a candle lighting ceremony, representing symbolism of the organization. more

Home and Careers Teacher Laurie Conti had never tried sewing pajama pants before, but interested in trying something new, she set out to learn how to make them. more

Holley inducts 18 into National Honor Society
The Holley High School Chapter of the National Honor Society welcomed 18 new members at its annual induction ceremony on November 21. During the ceremony, current members went into the audience and brought new members up on stage. more

Kendall juniors compete in oratorical contest
Five Kendall juniors really know what they are talking about when it comes to the U.S. Constitution. They wrote speeches from eight to 10 minutes long about an aspect of the Constitution, then spoke before representatives from the Jewell Buckman American Legion Post 529 in Holley. more

Holley kindergarten classes' annual Thanksgiving feast looked as good as it tasted. Students created decorations and hats for the gathering, which took place during lunch time. more

A Veteran's Day tribute
Holley Social Studies Teacher Sara Capen sent out an e-mail to her fellow staff members before Veteran's Day, request the names of service men and women, and the names of veterans, whether they saw combat or not. more

Hilton-Parma Seniors give thanks
On Friday, November 17, the Hilton-Parma Senior Center celebrated Thanksgiving with friends, dinner and entertainment. The seniors were treated to a complimentary thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. more

Ogden Seniors help homeless
The women of the Ogden Senior Center Thursday Craft Group have been involved with a project in which the members knit hats for the homeless in the Rochester community. more

Good bye - Good Luck
It was a short ceremony Wednesday, November 29 but it had many tender moments as Hilton school officials Denney Wilcox, athletic director; David Dimbleby, school superintendent; Brian Bartalo, principal and Mike Szczepanik, girls cross country coach, gave accolades, flowers and small gifts to the eight members of the Girls Cross Country Varsity team who were to leave early the next morning for a repeat performance in the Nike Team National Cross Country Race in Portland, Oregon. more

Hilton select basketball 8th grade team
wins Thanksgiving Tournament

The Hilton 8th grade select team put together four straight wins to claim victory at the 10th annual CYP Thanksgiving Tournament, which was held at SUNY Brockport on November 24 to November 26. Hilton started the tournament strong with convincing wins over Brockport, Macedon and Amherst. more

Memorial skate planned
The Hilton Hockey Boosters will hold a skate on Saturday, December 16, in memory of Hilton graduate Rob Coppaway. The eighth annual event, from 5 until 6:45 p.m., will include an hour of free skate time and a game of broomball featuring members of the senior class, high school teachers and administration. more

Pole vaulter Stuczynski to appear
Roberts Wesleyan graduate and 2006 U.S. Outdoor pole vault champion Jen Stuczynski will stage a competition with three other women and four men at the Voller Athletic Center on Friday, December 6 beginning at 8 p.m. The event is free to the public. more

Rangers rollin' in hockey
Spencerport jumped out to a 4-1 first period lead before settling for a 4-4 tie against visiting Victor. The Rangers hockey team is off to their best start since 1999 with a 1-0-1 record. more

Spencerport softball scholars honored
The National Fastpitch Coaches Association named five members of the 2005-06 Spencerport High School Varsity Softball team All-America Scholar Athletes. Students must have a 3.5 GPA to qualify. more
