The goal is to raise public consciousness about the historical structures still remaining in the Town of Gates. more

Holley's D.A.R.E. program seeking help
In the past, Officer David Sevor and the Holley Police Department's D.A.R.E. program have been able to rely on financial assistance from Diaz Chemical to help fund the program. That financial backing isn't likely to be there this year, Sevor said. more
Human Rights Week brings programs,
films on international concerns
The denial of freedom around the globe will be raised in programs and film screenings organized by the University of Rochester chapter of Amnesty International during Human Rights Week April 21-26. All events are free and open to the public. more

Maxs Mardi Gras celebration set for April 27
Maxs Mardi Gras parade and festival will be even bigger and better this year, committee convenor Bill Andrews said. "We have more than 70 units in the parade and the festival will have even more activities," he said. more
Notes from Brockport and Sweden
Anyone who has had the pleasure of a stroll in the last week or so on the canal near the Main Street bridge in Brockport cannot help but note the new benches and landscaping. And, the Brockport Garden Club will be adding some more plantings this spring. Work to replace Rt. 251 bridge in Scottsville begins
New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) Regional Director Charles Moynihan announced the $2.6 million contract to replace the Route 251 (River Road) bridge over Oatka Creek in the Village of Scottsville has been awarded. The project will include enhancements to the bridge, Canal Street and the adjacent Canawaugus Park. more

Benefit concert scheduled

the Epilepsy Foundation raises funds
Clarendon Cheesecakes and Jim's Restaurant of Spencerport are coming together to raise funds for the Epilepsy Foundation of Rochester. The two have come together to sponsor a cheesecake-eating contest, held on April 29 at Jim's Restaurant, 500 South Union Street in Spencerport. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. Bill Klein, entertainment critic at WHAM 1180-AM, will be the master of ceremonies. more
Girl Scouts host open house May 5
The Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley invites girls (ages 5-17) and their families to attend an Open House at Camp Pinewood from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 5. Come discover the fun and adventure offered at Resident Camp at Camp Pinewood, nestled in the hills of the Finger Lakes region near Dansville. Hunter Safety course offered in Chili
A Hunter Safety course will be offered at the Chili Community Center, 4400 Buffalo Road, North Chili. The course is for ages 12 and over. Ages 16 and under must come with a parent to sign a permission slip and must bring a copy of their birth certificate which must accompany the application. more
Ogden Historical Society welcomes speaker April 28
The Ogden Historical Society will meet at the Ogden Senior Center in Spencerport on Sunday, April 28 at 2 p.m. Peter Clune, guest speaker, will talk about his father, the late Henry Clune, a columnist for the Democrat and Chronicle. Peter Clune was an actor appearing on stage, radio, and television. The public is invited to the program.
Old Fashioned Days return to Honey Locust Farms

Holley school board adopts budget
There will be no staff cuts as part of the Holley Central School budget for 2002-2003, school Business Administrator Ted Welch said. "We were able to put the budget together without negatively affecting staffing," he said. more

Sixth-grader teachers Laurel O'Donaghue and Libby Harrington stand at the entry to Hamilton Castle, a dark and mysterious place in medieval times. The festival, held at the Hilton Northwood Elementary School, is in its fifth year and according to Harrington, "It grows and gets better every year." more
Kendall school dealing with negative state aid figures
Taxpayers in the Kendall Central School district will be asked to consider a 3.4 percent budget increase when they go to the polls May 21. more

C-C Softball Team members become 'Buddy Bunnies'
The Churchville-Chili Girls JV and Varsity Softball Team donated 22 Easter Baskets to the Pediatric Unit at Strong Memorial Hospital. Members of each team worked together to build the baskets. All Junior Varsity and Varsity team members worked on this project. more

Singles sweep leads cadets
Hilton won all four singles matches and two-of-three doubles to defeat Greece Olympia in boy's tennis 6-1 on a sunny April 11 on their home court. more

Justin Waas has been awarded a scholarship to play volleyball at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania. more
Students at Taylor School implement basketball camp
A group of boys at Taylor Elementary School in Spencerport designed and implemented a basketball camp for girls and boys in grades four through six. Matt Iachetta, Mike Brownyard, Roger Strong, Justin Melia, Jon St. Denis and Doug Potter "have been positive role models for many of our younger students," says physical education teacher Dan Brust. more
Wayne County fishing derby underway
The Wayne County 5GrandSlam and Merchants Challenge Fishing Derby started April 1 and the perch fishing has been so phenomenal that the odds of a two-pound perch being weighed are excellent, according to organizers. Local anglers Lou Rambo and Josh Smith have both weighed perch at 1 lb. 10 oz. more
