This service, provided at no charge to Riga residents, is a result of the County of Monroe and Town of Riga Host Community Agreement. more

Byron-Bergen adopts budget
The Byron-Bergen Board of Education adopted the 2005-2006 budget proposition of $16,559,514. Also on the ballot is a second proposition to purchase two 30-passenger wheel chair capable buses and one 7 passenger van not to exceed a cost of $128,000. more

Duck Derby receives local support
Brockport Integrated Service and Community Organization (BISCO) and Lakeside Memorial Hospital are teaming up for the annual Duck Derby to be held during the Brockport Summer Arts Festival, August 13 and 14. more

Extra Mile Award
David Leverenz was given The Extra Mile Award. This award is designed to recognize Hamlin residents who have shown an act of kindness, done a good deed or gone the extra mile. more

Hilton's new Postmaster
Marisa Papagilas became the new Hilton Postmaster March 19. As of June this year, Marisa will have been a postal employee for 30 years, having spent the last 23 years as the Customer Service Supervisor in the Hilton Post Office. more

Season opening canal 'sweep' set
The season opening sweep for the Adopt-A-Trail program of the Town of Sweden is scheduled for Saturday, May 7. Volunteers will meet at Harvester Park at 9 a.m. to begin work on the canal towpath. Adopting groups are asked by the Canal Corporation to monitor their sections of towpath at least once during the canal season. more

Incumbent Aggie Seneway and Tim Gagnon both of Hilton are seeking election for two open positions on the seven-member Hilton Central School District Board of Education. more

VA to begin chiropractic care
Veterans can receive chiropractic care at 26 selected Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities beginning this fall. VA will hire or contract with doctors of chiropractic to provide the care. In consultation with VA primary care providers, doctors of chiropractic will offer patient evaluations and chiropractic care for neuromusculoskeletal conditions. more

Volunteers help improve Sweden's stormwater quality
April 23 was a cold, rainy day but that didn't deter Sweden and Brockport volunteers from spending a few hours picking up debris along roadsides. Kimie Romeo, Volunteer Coordinator of Environmental Programs for Cornell Cooperative Extension, explained to the volunteers that keeping land clean is one of the most important ways to protect the local watershed that feeds into the world's largest supply of potable water - the Great Lakes. more

Westside DMV mobile units closed for network replacement
Due to a scheduled New York State Department of Motor Vehicle network replacement, the Monroe County Clerk Mobile Units on the Eastside and Westside will be closed for business this Monday, May 2. more

BOCES 2 teacher, students earn awards
BOCES 2 Career and Technical Education teacher Chef Kevin Bedard is a recipient of the 2005 ProStart® Teacher Training and Development Award by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF). Bedard, a BOCES 2 culinary arts teacher for six years, is one of 12 national winners. more

Churchville-Chili music students excel in competition
On Friday, April 1, the Churchville-Chili Senior High School music department took part in the Classic Festivals Music Competition held in Atlanta, Georgia. All six of the school's ensembles participated. more

Genesee Community College to hold summer theatre camp
The Theatre Department at Genesee Community College will sponsor a theatre camp this summer for students between the ages of 13 and 17. The camp begins on July 11 and runs through August 12 and will feature various workshops and demonstrations, as well as provide an opportunity for hands-on experience. more

Kindergarten registration delayed in Churchville
Because budget support is necessary to implement plans for full day kindergarten, the Churchville-Chili School District is delaying kindergarten registration until after the budget vote in May. more

SUNY employee receives Chancellor's Award
Sandra Mason, executive director of Brockport Auxiliary Service Corporation (BASC) on the campus of SUNY Brockport, has been cited for excellence in professional service and has been named winner of the Chancellor's Award for Excellence. more

Two members of Holley Karate's Black Belt staff, Sempai Sondra Aman and Sempai Mary Gifaldi satisfied the requirements set forth by the International Federation of Kyokushin Karate (IFKK) and were awarded the rank of Nidan, second degree black belt. more
