Senator George Maziarz, chairman of the Senate Labor Committee, reported that the State Senate unanimously passed legislation (S.7175-B) he sponsored that would grant up to ten days of unpaid work leave to spouses of members of our armed forces. more

Voters choose new trustee in Brockport
Voters in the Village of Brockport overwhelmingly cast their support behind Hanny Heyen as their choice for trustee for the next two years. Heyen defeated incumbent Mary Jo Nayman, by a margin of 580 votes to 329. more

BCSD receives Reading First grant
The Brockport Central School District was awarded a highly competitive $2.3 million Reading First grant. The grant, for students in grades K through 3, is a focused nationwide effort to enable all students to become successful early readers. The District will receive $900,000 the first year and will reapply to receive $700,000 for year two and $700,000 for year three. more

New girl's basketball coach named in Spencerport
Spencerport Central Schools announced that Jason "Jake" Lenhard has been named as the Rangers new Varsity Girls Basketball Coach. He replaces Mike Decillis, who resigned after the conclusion of the season. more

Riverbats fly out of gates
The Genesee Valley Riverbats began the 2006 season by winning four of their first six games and held first place in the early going of their New York Collegiate Baseball League season. more
