Celebrate a Victorian tea party
The Victorian era was a complex period of history with opulence, poverty and social reforms, but the Victorians enjoyed being entertained, and loved to give parties and afternoon teas. The Bergen Museum, with the Bergen Historical Society, is celebrating this unique part of history with a Victorian Tea Party from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 15 at the Harford Barn and Livery Stable on Rochester Street in Bergen. more

Bill Hullfish, a Brockport native, and three other members of the Golden Eagle String Band, will serenade visitors at Brockport's Welcome Center at 7 p.m. on July 10. more

Five little visitors surprise Hamlin Seniors
A surprise visit from the Barreriro Quintuplets delighted the Hamlin Seniors during their June 26 meeting. The five, 18-month old visitors, Dar'on, Jomar, Zoraelis, Emealis and Lysmarie, their six-year old sister, Soleemar, and parents Carlos and Marisol, arrived shortly after lunch and quickly charmed the seniors with their smiles and energy. more

Hilton chooses 'Citizen of the Year'
David Goodrich was chosen as the 2007 Citizen of the Year by the Hilton Village Board. Selected from a list of six other worthy individuals, Goodrich was chosen due to his long-term caring commitment to the Hilton Parma community, according to Mayor Larry Gursslin. more

Locals help California filmmaker
The sounds of, "Lights, camera, action!" will soon echo in the Village of Brockport when Christian filmmaker, Rich Christiano, begins filming his fifth movie, "The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry," in August. Christiano plans to film most of the movie in Brockport, with a few scenes located in Holley and Rochester. more

New events added to Canal Days line-up
Each year, community residents look forward to the annual Canal Days festivities held in Spencerport village. This year, Canal Days will be held July 27, 28 and 29. This year celebrates the 26th year of this popular community event. more

Ogden Rec bids farewell to long-time employee
The best part of her job will soon be the highlight of her retirement. Sandy Zingaro, administrative assistant in Ogden's Parks and Recreation Department for 20 years, is retiring to move to North Carolina to watch her grandchildren grow up. more

Shiloh Shepherds - the book, the dogs - will be at Lift Bridge
Tina Barber, author and breeder of Shiloh Shepherds, will be in Brockport during the Sidewalk Sale with her dogs and to sign copies of her new book. Barber, a native of Rochester, was born in Germany. She settled in America with her family when she was 11 years old. more

Towns of Sweden and Clarkson establish Wall of Honor
Active duty military service members and those who have served in Afghanistan and Iraq will be recognized on a Wall of Honor at the Sweden/Clarkson Community Center, 4927 Lake Road. The Town Boards of Sweden and Clarkson established the Wall of Honor by resolution at their June 26 meetings. more

County Legislator Dick Yolevich, along with the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, will be hosting a child safety seat fitting station on Saturday, July 14 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Hilton Fire Station, 135 South Avenue, Hilton. more

Firefighters from three counties train at SUNY Brockport
Firefighters from nine departments in Monroe, Orleans and Genesee Counties prepared to test their knowledge of high-rise firefighting on the SUNY Brockport campus. more

Free rabies clinic set
The Monroe County Health Department, in conjunction with the Town of Parma, will hold a free rabies clinic at the Parma Town Hall, 1300 Hilton Parma Corners Road (Route 259), Hilton. The clinic will run from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 21. more

On June 14, James Cunningham, a 1991 graduate of Spencerport Central Schools, received the Naples Chamber of Commerce 2007 Distinguished Public Service Award. more

Spencerport Scout Troop 165 goes to Washington
Boy Scout Troop 165 from Spencerport traveled to Washington, D.C. May 26 to May 28. Leader and Eagle Scout David Kent acted as tour guide for 14 scouts and 13 leaders as they traveled to the White House, Ford's Theater, Washington Monument, WWII Memorial, National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Museum of Natural History, Manassas National Battlefield Park and the National Air and Space Museum in Dulles. more

Sweden Seniors participate in Cancer Cap Project
Members of the Sweden Senior Center craft group participated in the Monroe County Fair Cancer Cap Project. To date they have made 487 hats. These hats and others will be on display at the Fair. more
