Adjustments continue on Spencerport fire house plans
The conclusion drawn at a recent fire commissioners meeting for the Spencerport Fire District was to put the building back out for bids by January. “When we get a firm price on the redesigned building, we will go back to the public with information, hold public meetings and then have another referendum,” Spencerport Fire District Commissioner Chair Tom Friedo said. more

Breeding alpacas at their 12-acre farm in Bergen is a "dream come true" for the family of Bob and Belinda Grant. Artistic fundraiser at Red Bird Tea Shoppe
On October 12, the Red Bird Tea Shoppe will host its second annual fundraiser for the Monroe County Breast Cancer Coalition. This year the fundraiser will feature the works of artist Lori Uderitz-Zeno and Craig Lohsen as well as free refreshments and door prizes. more

Brockport's Walk to School Day gains momentum
Students and their parents in the Brockport School District will be asked to lace up their sneakers and walk to school on October 3 as part of the National Walk to School Day program. more

Black bear seen again in Parma
The black bear still appears to be alive and well and roaming the roads of Parma. The last sighting was Tuesday, September 25 right before 9 p.m. at 147 Lighthouse Road. more

Clarkson Historical Society News
The 3rd annual Clarkson Academy Reunion was a success. About 50 people gathered in the Clarkson Community Church for refreshments and a social hour prior to a talk by Doris Schmidt who described school days in a one-room school. more

Churchville officials green light project proposal
Members of the Churchville Village Board learned about plans for a professional business building at the corner of East Buffalo Road and Washington Street during their meeting on Monday, September 24. more

Local Knights Council receives international award
Knights of Columbus Council #7707 of Spencerport earned the distinction of Star Council, one of the organization's top awards, for the 2006-2007 fraternal year. The award recognizes overall excellence in the areas of membership recruitment and retention, promotion of the fraternal insurance program and sponsorship of service-oriented activities. more

National Wildlife Refuge week begins connection to nature for families
The National Wildlife Refuge System protects approximately 97 million acres of fish and wildlife habitat. Scores of national wildlife refuges, including Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, are offering special programs to celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week, October 7-13. more

Sweden Farmers Museum hosts Harvest Festival
The Sweden Farmers Museum was established in 2005 to preserve the town’s agricultural history; to educate adults and children through a variety of interactive activities; and to celebrate, at the community level, the successes and importance of local farming. more

Bridge in Greece re-opened
The Route 261 (Manitou Road) bridge over Salmon Creek in Greece re-opened after being replaced and the detour has been removed. The structure opened on September 7. more

Ethics panel discussion set
Dr. Randall Curren, a University of Rochester professor specializing in ethics, will speak on "The Ethics of Leadership" Thursday, October 18 at 7 p.m. at the Seymour Library on 161 East Avenue in Brockport. more

Greece Community Partners hosts annual dinner
Greece Community Partners will host its semi-annual dinner/show on Sunday, November 4 to benefit the Greece Community Scholarship Fund. "The Dr. Nick and Gloria Show," will be presented. more

Legion Auxiliary meeting scheduled
President Marilyn Carpenter, along with officers and other members of the Monroe County Committee of the American Legion Auxiliary, will host a dinner meeting for the officers of the 7th District American Legion Auxiliary, President Bonnie Sonneville; Vice-president Kathryn Wood-Bacher; and Secretary, Sharon Polson on Thursday, October 11. more

Scout project complete
Grant Holupko completed an Eagle Project at the Sweden Senior Center. With the help of his Boy Scout Troop 324, he installed a Bocce Court for the Senior Center use. more

B-B opens Universal Pre-K
Students and staff at Byron-Bergen celebrated the inaugural Universal Pre-Kindergarten class with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in September, with 18 students, teacher Ayn Gardner and teacher aide Cheryl Giles. Selected through a lottery process, students are in Pre-K for a full day, five days a week. more

Byron-Bergen's eye on safety
"Safety First" is the district's number one goal at Byron-Bergen. That was demonstrated by work done over the summer and at the beginning of the school year with the installation of several cameras to help monitor the hallways and outside of the school buildings. more

B-B student tapped by governor for panel
Invited by Governor Spitzer's office, Emma Long, a senior at Byron-Bergen High School, participated in a panel discussion at the "I Live New York" summit held at SUNY Cortland on September 18. more

CC's Junior High vocal group sings for thousands
Churchville-Chili Central School District Junior High School's vocal ensemble, Off the Beat (OTB), is rehearsing for their biggest gig to date. On November 16, the ensemble, made up of auditioned 8th and 9th grade students, will sing the national anthem before the Rochester Americans (Amerks) hockey game - one of a number of Amerks pre-game anthem performances for the year. more

Holley's attendance policy keeps students in school
The Holley Central School District introduced an attendance policy about a year ago and already it's having a positive impact on student attendance. "Instruction can happen only if students are here in school," said Susan Cory, director of student services. more

Rachel's Challenge coming to Kendall
On Thursday, October 4, students at Kendall Junior/Senior High School will attend a Rachel's Challenge assembly. This audio and video presentation is a program which chronicles the life of Rachel Scott, the first person killed at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. more

Twilight School gives Holley students another option for learning
Holley students unable to attend regular classes have another option for learning right in their own backyard with the new Twilight School. This in-district based alternative learning program is available to certain students from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. every school day. more

Brockport CSD inducts members
to 'Athletic Wall of Honor'

Plaques of seven new inductees are on the Athletic Wall of Honor located outside the district's main gymnasium at the Brockport A.D. Oliver Middle School. Inductees were honored at a ceremony on September 7 and during half time of the Varsity Football game. more

Brockport records second win
Brockport scored three second-quarter touchdowns and went on to defeat host Spencerport 34-7 in high school football. more

Blue Deveils halt Cadets
Brockport swept all four singles matches along with a win at first doubles in a 5-2 victory over visiting Hilton in girls tennis. more

Players progress in football competition
On Saturday, September 22, the local competition portion of the NFL-Pepsi Punt, Pass & Kick Contests was hosted by Riga Recreation at the Buffalo Road Park in Churchville. more
