The Village of Brockport, through equipment donations from Sunnking Recycling and assistance from the Greater Brockport Development Corporation, has installed free wireless Internet access at the Welcome Center at Harvester Park. more

Commissioners continue building construction talks
It's been close to a month since the Spencerport Fire District Board of Commissioners opened the bids for the reconstruction of Station 1 and were greeted with figures that caused sticker shock. The original construction costs were pegged at an anticipated $5.2 million; the bids came back at more than $1 million higher. more

Firefighter's Monument returns home
Brockport Firefighters, Hanlon Studios of Toms River, New Jersey, Kron's Wonders in Wood and Rochester Monument Company coverged upon the Firefighter's Memorial Monument to welcome home, and permanently mount the newly cast, and long-awaited bronze firefighter figures for the Firefighter's Memorial Monument in Brockport. more

Hamlin hosts another wind tower talk
Close to two dozen people attended a Hamlin meeting to speak about wind towers and the recommendations that had been handed down by the Wind Tower Committee (WTC). Because many questions were raised and some were unable to be answered at that meeting, a special board meeting is set for 6 p.m. August 28 to revisit the topic. more

Orleans County schedules used tire clean-up
On September 22, the Orleans County Soil and Water Conservation District will sponsor its second annual county wide used tire clean-up. Tires can be brought to the Orleans County Redemption Center, (next door to the County Emergency Management Office) at 14064 County House Road, Albion between 9 a.m. and noon. more

Retires from Air Force
Colonel Gary V. Wells retired from the Air Force after serving his country for 26 and one-half years. He is the son of Ruth Wells, Spencerport and the late Vernon Wells. more

Star rebate enrollment letters mailed
The Tax Department has started mailing letters to homeowners in nine western New York state counties, providing them with information on how to apply for their 2007 Middle Class STAR Rebate check and receive the full program benefit. more

The Brockport Central School District has a new 24-hour dedicated safety tipline available for reporting any situation that could jeopardize the safety of the students, staff, or school property, according to district representatives. more

welcomes Hendel back as interim principal

Paul Hendel returns to Holley Middle School/High School for the start of the 2007-08 school year. The Board of Education approved his appointment as interim principal at its August 20 meeting. more

Immersing oneself in a culture is the best way to understand it as well as to share one's own culture with another. One can learn French or Spanish in a classroom, but living it and speaking it with natives is the surest way to pick up all the nuances. more

Tax rate lower in three C-C district towns
According to Churchville-Chili Central School District representatives, the administration, under the direction of the Board of Education, was able to provide a lower than expected tax rate to the community. more

Senior Center offering AARP and PACE courses
The Hilton-Parma Senior Center will offer an AARP Safe Drivers Course on September 12 and 14 (Wednesday and Friday from noon to 4 p.m.) This course will be held in the Ingham Room at the Village Community Center, 59 Henry Street. This is a refresher course and participants must attend both classes. The cost is $10. Checks made payable to: AARP. more

Sweden Senior Center plans two-day celebration of its accreditation
The Sweden Senior Center in Brockport will celebrate its national accreditation with events at the Center on Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15. The Center, at 133 State Street, became the first nationally accredited senior center in Monroe County. It is among only 10 such centers in New York state and 130 nationally to receive accreditation. more

Dunne named interim coach
Eight-year assistant coach Greg Dunne has been named to replace Nelson Whitmore as the head coach of the SUNY Brockport Men's Basketball team. Whitmore resigned last Monday to become the new head coach at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. more

Hilton Boys varsity soccer coach named
Hilton Central Schools Teacher Greg Booth was named Varsity Boys Soccer Coach succeeding Paul Davis. He has coached Hilton CSD Modified and JV Soccer for seven years. more

Roberts Wesleyan fall sports preview
Womens Soccer - The Lady Raiders are hoping to continue the momentum from their 14-5-1 record last season, which included eight wins in twelve games on the road and an eight game unbeaten streak. They enter this season with just five seniors and lose leading scorer Aimee Legault, but return American Mideast Conference Freshman of the Year Laura Willits (Spencerport). more
