A Look Back At 2002 - The Year in Review
•ESL Federal Credit Union completed its merger with Wegmans Federal Credit Union. WFCU members officially became ESL members when their accounts were converted on January 1.
•A malfunctioning release valve caused an accidental release of chemicals from the Diaz Chemical Corporation in Holley on January 5. Approximately 80 gallons of chemicals were released, one of the compounds so new that neither Diaz nor the DEC could be sure of the long or short term effects of exposure. more

Court denies stay, landlord levied heavy fine
Efforts of village officials to enforce building codes have been supported by two recent court decisions. The decisions involve Richard Miller, a Brockport realtor and landlord, and owner of several rental properties in the village. more

Easter Seals New York - Western Region and Friendly's Restaurants (Kessler Family, LLC) in Central, Southern and Western New York have teamed up with launching the "Cones For Kids" Campaign 2003 to benefit those with disabilities. more

Holiday decorators receive awards
The Riga Recreation and Community Events Department held a Holiday Decorating Contest. Prizes were given in four categories: Creativity, Use of Lights, Theme and Judges Choice. more

New stop smoking program offers help with New Year's resolution
Experts says more than 16 million people try to stop smoking every year - and many of these individuals will target January 1 to begin their difficult challenge. That's why BlueCross BlueShield of the Rochester Area (BCBSRA) and the New York State Smokers Quitline are introducing Quit 1-2-3, a new stop smoking program available at no cost to Blue Choice managed care members with asthma, diabetes or heart disease. more

Summer camp plans set for Sweden/Clarkson Rec
Beginning in June 2003, Sweden/Clarkson Recreation will be offering a Monroe County Certified Day Camp to kids in grades K-6. The tentative dates for the seven-week camp will be from Tuesday, June 24 through Friday, August 8. more

The Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES Center for Workforce Development has become an Authorized Prometric Test Center (APTC) Prometric is a leading worldwide provider of comprehensive technology-based testing and assessment services. As an APTC, the Center for Workforce Development (CWD) operates under a license from Prometric. more

C-C School calendar changed
Due to Regents exam schedule conflict, Churchville-Chili Central Schools Superintendent's Conference Day scheduled for Monday, January 27, 2003 is changed to Friday, January 31, 2003. School for students will not be in session on Friday, January 31, 2003.

Strategic Planning Team presents draft framework to school board
Members of the strategic plan core team presented the draft framework of the district's strategic plan, the result of three intensive days of work in November. The group of 27 Spencerport residents and employees developed a mission statement with strategic objectives and strategies to achieve the mission, all by consensus. more

Students experience engineering
Twenty high school students from six districts participated in a BOCES 2 Project ADEPT (A Diversified Enrichment Program for Talented) seminar on Packaging Engineering held at RIT. The students learned how math skills and science knowledge are applied in creative ways to solve real problems in the field of packaging. more

Churchville-Chili Saints host winter baseball camp
The Churchville-Chili baseball program offers four Saturdays of baseball fun and fundamentals. The camp will also include indoor games, fun activities and a home run derby. Participants will have an opportunity to get involved in the "Saints Batboy for a Game Program" during the 2003 season. more

Dries hat trick leads Blue Devils
Junior forward Brandon Dries scored three goals and assisted on one other as the Brockport Blue Devils trounced Kenmore West 10-2 in high school hockey action December 21. more

Northampton Park Ski Slope set to open
Northampton Park was scheduled to open for the 2002-2003 ski season on December 26. The cold temperatures of the past month have allowed staff to make more snow on the slope during the past 14 days, than all of last year. more

Olsheski, Arieno pace Blue Devils
Ashley Olsheski dished out 37 assists and Chris Arieno had 18 kills as Brockport defeated Penfield 25-17, 20-25, 25-21, 25-10 in girl's volleyball December 21. more

Rangers 4th in relays
The four-some of Zach Grobengeiser, Doug Bennett, Jon Hogue and Johannes Dahl won the 200 Butterfly and finished second in the 200 Medley and 400 I.M. as Spencerport finished fourth at the 21st annual boy's swimming Spencerport Relays December 19. more
