Cooperative Extension hosts Family Folk Fair
The fifth annual Family Folk Fair was held Sunday, March 13 at the Orleans County 4-H Fairgrounds. Sponsored by Orleans County Cornell Cooperative Extension, Orleans County Youth Bureau and Go Art!, more than 300 people attended the event that featured entertainment, demonstrations and displays celebrating local folk art and culture. more
Four missing youth located, returned home
On Monday, March 7, a 15-year-old female and a 13-year-old female were reported missing to the Holley Police Department and a 13-year-old female and 14-year-old male were reported missing to the Orleans County Sheriff's Department. more
Hamlin makes firehouse a home
The Hamlin Fire House is currently completing a $1 million makeover to better prepare firefighters and to create a stronger sense of community among the volunteers. more
Historic Civil War cannon sold by Kendall officials
Residents in the Town of Kendall are upset that a historic piece of town history was sold late last year. Because of the weather, the missing cannon wasn't noticed by residents until recently. more
Riga Republican Committee offers citizenship award
The Riga Republican Committee will be offering its second annual Citizenship Award in the amount of $500. The award is available to all Town of Riga residents who are between the ages of 16 and 21. The Citizenship Award may be used for educational travel, training, education, trade tools or personal improvement. Past recipients of the award are not eligible. more

On a cold and luckily only slightly windy recent Saturday morning, about 40 birdwatchers, many of them beginners, walked out on the ice pier at Charlotte looking for ducks and other migrating waterfowl. more

Farm Credit of Western New York, ACA will award three $2,000 scholarships to students pursuing careers in agriculture. more
Spencerport Board of Ed seeking candidates
Spencerport School District residents are invited to run for a three-year term on the Spencerport Board of Education, which votes on school district policies and budgets. To become a board candidate, an interested person must be a U.S. citizen age 18 and over and a district resident. more
Spring hours begin at Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge
Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge in Alabama announced that the refuge visitor contact station will be open on weekends through May from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. This is in addition to its regular business hours of Monday to Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Flyway Nature Shop, operated by the Friends of Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, Inc., will also operate during these hours. more
Traffic safety office sponsors safety awareness contest
The Monroe County Office of Traffic Safety, together with the Rochester General Hospital Association and TWIGS, are sponsoring the 17th annual Wheeled Vehicle Safety Awareness Contest. The contest is designed to raise awareness about wheeled vehicle safety among children and is open to all kindergarten through sixth grade students in Monroe County. more

for arts business and investment
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton said she welcomed a study that showed that Rochester was among the top cities in the nation for attracting arts businesses and investment. more
Holley chooses new trustees, says 'no' to four year terms
Political newcomers ruled the trustee race in the Village of Holley on March 15. Thomas O'Neill received 177 votes in his bid for a two year term on the village board. This was O'Neill's second bid for public office in as many years. more
Spencerport village voters turn out in record numbers
Incumbent Ted Walker beat challenger Greece Police Chief Merritt Rahn for the mayoral seat in the Village of Spencerport at the polls March 15. Walker garnered 435 votes, Rahn 287. Incumbent Village Board Trustee Theodore Rauber received 457 votes and John Marello received 328. Both were elected to four year terms. more

Students raise thousands in change for Red Cross
They emptied piggy banks, did extra chores at home and sacrificed their spending money. And when the barrels of change and bills had been counted, the students at Spencerport's Cosgrove Middle School had raised more than $4,300 to benefit the Red Cross' tsunami disaster relief fund. more

Assemblyman David Koon (135th District) announced he is accepting applications from eligible students for a full tuition scholarship through SUNY Maritime College. more

The Dynamic Silver Bullets All-Star Junior Cheerleading team won first place New York State Champions in the Junior All-Star Small Level 2 Division in Utica, New York on March 5. more
Gymnasts place in Niagara Cup
The Victors Gymnastics Team of Greece competed in the Niagara Cup, March 11-13 at the University of Buffalo. more
Spencerport athletes qualify as team scholars
The Spencerport Central Schools' Athletic Department announced that six of their winter athletic teams qualified for the NYSPHSAA Team Scholar Athlete Award during the 2004 season. To qualify, a team must have a team grade point average of 90 percent or above. more
