The second annual Stone Soup Auction will be held October 14 at the Brockport High School auditorium. The auction of works by area artists is sponsored by the Arts and Aesthetics committee of the Walk! Bike! Brockport Action Group. more

Sweden gets grant for trail development
An $82,644 state grant was awarded to the Town of Sweden which allows town officials to develop and maintain hiking and biking trails. The grant is a part of the federal Recreational Trails Program, according to Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece) who announced it. more

Volunteers recognized at Lakeside event
Volunteers of Lakeside Health System were recognized at an Inspire by Example appreciation dinner. Lakeside recognizes the value of its 50 volunteers who donated their time over the past year. more

Brockport's 'caring kids' wrap up the year
The Caring Kids Club, a tradition at the Brockport Ginther School for more than 13 years, teaches the kindergarten and first-graders important lessons about caring and how to give back to others through community service. Every Friday throughout the year, two students from each class were selected to participate in Caring Kids Club activities. more

Holley students present water quality findings at community forum
For much of the past year, Holley environmental science students have made Sandy Creek their classroom. The ninth-graders had the opportunity to monitor water quality along the local waterway thanks to a $10,000 Toyota Tapestry Grant that provided them with the special equipment necessary to make accurate readings. more

LMH Twig presents scholarships
The Lakeside Memorial Hospital Twig Association awarded its annual scholarships to 10 students who are working toward a degree in the health care field. more

Young citizens of the year announced
County Executive Maggie Brooks and Monroe County Legislature President Wayne Zyra honored the recipients of the 2005 Young Citizen of the Year and Willie Lightfoot Youth Advocate of the Year Awards. For the past 12 years, the Legislature has worked in partnership with the Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau to identify and honor exceptional youth and youth advocates for their contributions to the community. more
