Clarkson Community Church selects new pastor
Clarkson Community Church has completed a year long search for a new pastor. Pastor Paul Davis, who served the church faithfully for 11 years, stepped down to pursue a career in teaching. Out of approximately 100 applicants, the congregation selected Pastor Tony Bartolucci. more

Congregation welcomes new pastor
The Rev. John Vertigan officially began his work as pastor of the First Congregational Church of the United Church of Christ in Spencerport on January 1. More than 150 attendees extended an enthusiastic greeting to the pastor and his family at their first worship service together on January 5. more

Flags denote caring and support
On Friday, January 9, seventeen area Marines left from Chili to travel to Camp LeJeune, N.C. Where they will go after that is uncertain. For those left at home, this can be a trying time. It can also be a time to take part in a custom that began during World War I. more

Holley board fines Diaz Chemical
It was unanimously decided by Village of Holley board members to fine Diaz Chemical $17,000 for 17 violations under its waste water permit with the village. more

Residents braved the elements on January 21 to cast their votes for two referendums in the Village of Holley. more

New bridge spans Parma's Town Park pond
The pond at Parma Town Park is a little more pedestrian friendly thanks to a newly installed 30-foot long, 7-foot wide bridge that crosses the southern banks of this fishing haven. Troop 125 scout, Eric Gooding, took on the responsibility of coordinating the bridge construction as part of his Eagle Scout project after conferring with Eagle Advisor, Rick Alexander, who knew of the town's need to span the pond with a footbridge. more

Ogden Police Academy begins in February
The Town of Ogden Police Department offers their Citizens Police Academy (CPA) beginning on Wednesday evenings at the Ogden Community Center, 269 Ogden Center Road, Spencerport beginning in early February. more

Parma looking for solution to contaminated soil
At the suggestion of Jerry Bauman's attorney, the Parma Planning Board agreed to table discussion on the remediation of soil located at the corner of Manitou and Frisbee Hill Road, at the January 20 Parma Planning Board Meeting. more

SUNY Maritime application deadline extended
According to Assembly Republican Leader Charles H. Nesbitt (R,C-Albion), applications for the new Cadet Appointment Program at SUNY Maritime will now be accepted until February 1. The program enables the governor, state senators and members of the assembly to nominate eligible students to attend Maritime College as part of its Regiment of Cadets. more

Young artists to audition for awards
The Rochester Philharmonic League Education Committee (RPLEC) will be hosting the annual Young Artist Auditions on Saturday, March 8. Students will perform in front of professional judges for awards and scholarships. more

Monroe County sponsors child car seat check
A free Child Car Seat Safety Inspection is set for Saturday, February 8, 2003 at the Henrietta Department of Public Works indoor garage at 405 Calkins Road (next to Henrietta Town Hall) from 9 a.m. to noon. The safety inspection program is designed to help parents and guardians ensure child car seats are properly installed and is sponsored in part by Monroe County. more

Ogden board members recognized
At the town's organizational meeting on January 8, Ogden Supervisor Gay Lenhard presented a plaque of appreciation to Dick Davie for sixteen years of service with the Ogden Conservation Board. Davie had served on the board since January 1987, with eleven years as chairman. more

Retiring Brockport dispatcher to be honored
Brockport Public Safety Dispatcher Dave Smith is being honored for over thirty years of service on Friday, January 31 at 6 p.m. more

"Cabinets of Curiosity: Brockport Collects" exhibit opens January 28 with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Tower Fine Arts Gallery, SUNY College at Brockport. more

The Town of Parma invites everyone outside to play on Saturday, February 1 at their Snowfest Celebration. From 4 to 7 p.m. all kinds of free winter activities are planned at Parma Town Hall Park (Route 259). more

Brockport Elementary students
design house for "Houses on Parade"

A giant-sized brown shoe with a leather shoelace and a bright red chimney covers an entire table in Nancy Datro's art classroom at the Brockport Hill Elementary School. The "shoe" was created by five fifth-grade students as part of the Better Contractors Bureau (BCB) "Houses on Parade" project. more

Funds raised for Brockport skate park
Students in Brockport High School's engineering design and development class held a bottle drive on Sunday, January 5 that raised $248 for the skate park they are helping to build. The students collected bottles from throughout the area and redeemed them at Wegmans Food Market. The money will be used to help hire consultants to assist in the design of the skate park. more

GCC storytelling festival includes workshops and performances
The Fine Arts Committee at Genesee Community College is collaborating with School Library Services of Genesee Valley BOCES to present a Storytelling Festival Kick-Off for children in grades 3 through 8 in the GLOW region. Rochester based storyteller Howard Edmond will give a series of workshops to area school children on Friday, February 13 in the Stuart Steiner Theatre. A community performance will follow at 12:30 p.m. more

GCC updates strategic and facilities plans
Genesee Community College's Board of Trustees approved the updated facilities and strategic plans last December. The strategic plan, which is reviewed annually, identifies the college's priorities and emerging service needs. more

Roberts Wesleyan and VisionMakers
team to 'Magnet-ize' local companies

A project being conducted jointly by the Roberts Wesleyan College and VisionMakers Leadership Practices, Inc., will help companies with at least 50 employees accomplish both. more

St. John the Evangelist School students and staff plan several activities to mark Catholic Schools Week, January 26 to 31. more

Bright Raven Gymnasts place in Syracuse
Bright Raven Gymnastics Level 4 Team traveled to Syracuse, January 12, to participate in the Teddy Bear Classic hosted by the Gym Connection 2 of Syracuse. In the 12 and up age division, Sara Marchitelli of Gates won first place on the uneven parallel bars with a score of 9.20. more

Brockport gymnasts ranked first in the nation in all categories
The SUNY Brockport gymnastics team was ranked first in the country in Division III last week after finishing with 180.325 team points at Division I Towson this past weekend. The Golden Eagles team high is over a point more than second place Wisconsin-LaCrosse who had 179.225 points, and is also a new school team record. more

Clark breaks JPMorgan Chase Tournament scoring record
Senior Kristen Clark (Hilton/Hilton) scored 30 points and became the all-time women's career tournament scoring leader to lead SUNY Brockport to a 78-65 victory over RIT in the consolation round of the JPMorgan Chase Scholarship Basketball Tournament January 16 at Roberts Wesleyan College. more

Dries nets two in win
Brandon Dries netted a pair of power play goals and Pat Young picked up his third shutout of the season as Brockport defeated Penfield 2-0 in high school hockey January 18. more
