Eastern Orleans' annual United Way/Red Cross campaign has a goal of $151,500. The dollars raised through the annual appeal directly benefit the services and programs offered by 11 local health and human service organizations in Orleans County. more

Holley board appoints new mayor who then appoints trustee
William Quaranto was chosen by several trustees to serve as the Village of Holley's new mayor. Former Mayor Dan Schiavone tendered his resignation on Tuesday, September 9 prompting the remaining trustees to appoint Quaranto to the position on September 11. more

It's never too soon to start reading
Maggie Dow has been reading all of her life -- all 23 months of it, that is. Sure, Maggie depends on her parents, Steve and Trish Dow, to help her get the words off of the pages. But the things Maggie can do with books - point to letters and numbers, follow a story from beginning to end, and recognize and enjoy her favorite characters, for example - are all things that will most likely help her really learn to read more quickly when the time comes. more

The Quest Elementary School's auditorium became an impromptu meeting hall Tuesday, September 16, when about 160 people turned out for Parma's public hearing to review the Draft Generic Environmental Impact Study (DGEIS) for the Fairfield Place project. more

Pets invited to October 5 blessing by Bishop
Pets and pet lovers are invited to the annual Blessing of the Animals in honor of St. Francis of Assisi to be held at noon in the garden of Trinity Episcopal Church, 3450 Ridge Road West at North Avenue on Sunday, October 5. The Rt. Rev. Jack McKelvey, Episcopal Bishop of Rochester, will officiate. more

Upon receiving a call from the Twig Gift Shop at Lakeside Memorial Hospital to come and receive a donation of pop can tops, Cora Goyette, Donor Relations Director, located a box and headed down the hallway. What she had not expected was to come face to face with 168,000 tops. more

The Flower City Down Syndrome Network (FCDSN) invites area residents to join in the Seventh Annual Buddy Walk to celebrate National Down Syndrome Awareness Month and promote the awareness and acceptance of all people with Down syndrome, a genetic condition that occurs in approximately one in every 800 to 1,000 births and causes developmental delays. more

Informational brochure now available on town websites
The Towns of Sweden and Clarkson have posted the Sweden/Clarkson Community Center Rec-Reader on their websites. The Rec-Reader, the quarterly brochure containing all program information, was unexpectedly delayed in its delivery to homes this fall. more

Lakeside receives electric cars
Two electric vehicles were delivered to Lakeside Health System, gifts from Global Electric Motorcars (GEM), one two passenger and one four passenger. The vehicles will be used for evening security checks of the Lakeside campus, requested staff escorts to their vehicles during security coverage, Wednesdays through Sundays, 11 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. by security and routine ground transportation for facilities maintenance purposes. more

Three tier bus schedule affects Spencerport elementary runs
Like many other school districts in Monroe County, Spencerport Central Schools has gone to a three-tier system of scheduling. This is due to the enrollment being up and continuing to increase, as well as due to the decision to put the sixth grade students into the middle school. more

Former Hilton athletes, coaches and supporters of the Hilton Athletic Program are eligible for Hilton High School's Athletic Hall of Fame, according to Hilton Director of Athletics Denney Wilcox. more

Indoor soccer facility re-opens in Chili
Off the Wall Soccer Indoor Arena in Chili Center is open again for clinics, leagues and rentals this fall. Roberts Wesleyan College Men's Soccer Coach Greg Gidman has taken over the management of the facility from former Rochester Rhino Carlos Zavala. more

Saints defense pitches fifth consecutive shutout
Goalkeeper Katie Voorheis and the Churchville-Chili defense is making it look easy this season as they had yet to allow a goal through their first five games this season. Brianna Diaz, Emilie Rowe, Renee Strobel and Elizabeth Zorn are the last line of defense in front of Voorheis and they're not making any mistakes either as they limited Gates Chili to just a handful of shots in a 3-1 win in high school girl's soccer. more

Two school records in Ranger waters
Senior Miriam Gurumsen and junior Jaclyn Cowles each broke their own school records as the Spencerport Rangers won ten of the twelve events and defeated Gates Chili 98-88 in girl's swimming. more
