Committee forming to study Hamlin Community Center options
Hamlin residents are now meeting to explore the construction of a community center. Representing diverse groups and organizations, the committee visualizes a social, recreational, and intellectual gathering place for everyone in the town, which currently has neither a school nor a community center of its own, contacts Diane Hennekey and Monica Seeley stated in a press release. more
Local woman to try for Mrs. New York title
The Mrs. New York America Pageant will be held at the Dome Center on the fairgrounds in Henrietta on June 25 and 26. Ogden resident Debra Sciolino will compete against 30 other women for the title of Mrs. New York America 2004. more

"Northern Borders" chosen as 2004 Tale for Three Counties
The public libraries in Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming Counties are pleased to announce that the 2004 selection for "A Tale for Three Counties" is "Northern Borders" by Vermont author Howard Frank Mosher. "A Tale for Three Counties" is an area-wide book discussion program that encourages adults and teens to read a selected book, participate in book discussions, and then meet the author. more
The Red Hat Society comes to Spencerport
The Erie Canal Belles of Spencerport are now a chartered member of the Red Hat Society. This organization began as the result of a few women deciding "to greet middle age with verve, humor and elan. We believe silliness is the comedy relief of life, since we are all in it together, we might as well join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. more
Trolley project receives grant
The Spencerport Trolley Depot Restoration Project committee has received a grant in the amount of $1,000 on behalf of the Genesee Country Antique Dealers Association. more

Group rate concert tickets available to seniors
Activity directors of senior citizens centers, adult living facilities and nursing homes should take note that special group rate tickets are available for The Chorus of the Genesee's spring concert. Groups of ten or more save $3 off the usual senior citizen price by making reservations for their group outing early. more

Hilton Apple Fest sets meetings for 2004 boards
On January 22, the Hilton Apple Fest Committee will hold its annual meeting to establish the 2004 Board of Directors. Immediately following the annual meeting, the regular Hilton Apple Fest Board of Directors meeting will be held. This board will vote on having a 2004 Apple Fest and determine the date of the event. more

Employees recognized at Brockport Central School District
The Brockport Central School District Labor Management Team honored fourteen employees for their outstanding work within the district. These members of the non-teaching professional staff were nominated by peers, teachers, and/or administrators for the positive impact they have in the overall operation of the district. more
High school students design, paint mural for local business
High School Art students from Holley recently designed a wall-sized mural that will be painted at Clarendon Cheesecakes, Saturday, January 17, with help from their teacher, Brandi Zavitz. Community involvement is a large part of Clarendon Cheesecakes' winning recipe. more
Paul Road student recognized for fire prevention essay
Amanda Wainwright (center) a student at Paul Road Elementary School, was one of three students who received regional awards for fire prevention essays written for the Monroe County Volunteer Firemen's Association contest last fall. more

The SUNY College at Brockport master of public administration (MPA) program is now offering an emphasis (major) in public safety, beginning with elective courses summer 2004 and a full course offering fall 2004. more

Tax preparation help for seniors available
AARP will be on had to prepare state and federal income taxes. Staff will be available Tuesday and Thursday mornings beginning February 10 at the Village Community Center, 59 Henry Street, Hilton. Appointments are necessary and can be scheduled at 9 a.m., 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon. more

Blue Devils in first in volleyball
Brockport swept Hilton 25-13, 25-16 and 25-13 in high school girls volleyball to improve to 8-0 in league and first place as the team prepares for the stretch run. The Cadets played the Blue Devils tough early in all three games before Brockport would find the extra gear late in each contest. more
Brockport's Secours, 15, rolls 300 game, wins tournaments
Nick Secours has been blistering hot on the bowling lanes. Since Holiday Recess, the 15-year-old Brockport High School sophomore has been the toughest bowler in town, whether it's been in team or singles competition. more
Free-throw winners announced
The St. Leo's Knights of Columbus Free-Throw Contest was held on Saturday, December 27 at the Hilton Village Community Center. Boys and girls between the ages of 10-14 were given the opportunity to shoot 15 free throws, and the number successfully made was compared to the total of other participant's totals in the same age bracket. more
Hawks win with seven pins
Seven wrestlers netted pins and Holley improved to 4-0 this season with a 65-14 victory over Byron-Bergen in high school wrestling. more
Hilton JV cheerleaders win first in competition
The Hilton Junior Varsity Cheerleaders took first place in the large division at the Victor Tournament held on January 10, with the highest overall score of the entire tournament (170). more
Rangers Russell, Hopkins 1-2 in diving
Chris Russell and Nate Hopkins finished first and second in diving as Spencerport fell to top-ranked Penfield 110-71 in high school boy's swimming. more
