Brockport looking into cutting police shift
When it comes to budgeting in the Village of Brockport, its police chief questions why the cuts are aimed at his department. At a recent budget meeting in the village, Trustee Morton Wexler put forth an idea to eliminate one of the Brockport Police Department's daytime shifts. It is a move that has drawn opposition from the mayor and the police chief, but one that the village treasurer will be looking into. more

Brooks launches Monroe County prescription discount plan
Fulfilling a pledge to local seniors to help them save money when purchasing often costly prescription drugs, Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks has launched the Monroe County Prescription Discount Plan. more

Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War
present book to Ogden Farmers' Library

The Abraham Lincoln Camp #6, a division of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Organization (SUVCW) recently donated a reproduction of a rare book to the Ogden Farmers' Library. The library owns the original book but this donation allows patrons to have access to the contents while preserving the original. more

Bergen trustees keep seats
Poor weather conditions may have contributed to low voter turnout in the Village of Bergen elections on March 16. Incumbent trustees Robert Bausch and Wayne Bailey were running unopposed for four-year trustee seats. Bausch received 24 votes and Bailey garnered 26.

Former mayor wins in Holley
Former Village of Holley Mayor Stanley "Skip" Carpenter regained that seat in the March 16 village elections. Carpenter, who is currently a trustee and who served as mayor during the 1990s, garnered 220 votes. Tom O'Neill, who was also seeking the mayoral position, received 157 votes. more

Gates Democratic Committee established, elects Swanton as leader
Susan Swanton was elected Town Leader at the organizational meeting of the Gates Democratic Committee March 4. More than 20 people attended the organizational meeting to join the Democratic Committee. "There is obviously a lot of enthusiasm for the Democratic Party in Gates and a lot of interest in restoring a real two-party system in the town," Monroe County Democratic Chair Molly Clifford said. more

Hilton village candidates unopposed
At the polls March 16, Jim M. Gates was re-elected to his third four-year term and Walter P. Horylev re-elected to his fourth full term as Hilton village trustees. Gates received 34 votes, Horylev 33. Neither was opposed.

Bernabi School to become 'Living Museum' on March 25
Bernabi Elementary School will showcase Spencerport history on March 25 when students create a "living museum" with examples of schools, clothing and household chores from the past. Families are invited to see student displays, plus view exhibits and meet local guests, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the school. more

District's bond process lauded
The Hilton Central School District was featured in "The Bond Buyer, The Daily Newspaper of Public Finance" in a December 30, 2003 article. The school district and bond counsel Bernard P. Donegan were singled out for the sale of $21 million in municipal bonds for the $57.9 million Capital Project. more

Enterprising Roberts Wesleyan students

The Roberts Wesleyan College chapter of Students in Free Enterprise (RWC-SIFE) will test its educational outreach projects against projects of 22 other SIFE teams at the 2004 SIFE Regional Competition and Career Opportunity Fair on March 29 in Cincinnati, Ohio. more

Holley to host Music Celebration Concert
In honor of Music in Our Schools Month, the Holley Elementary Chorus will be performing a special Music Celebration Concert on Tuesday, March 23 at 7 p.m. in the Holley Elementary Primary Gym. The concert will feature All County vocalists as well as Solo Fest instrumentalists Mark Health on trumpet, Cory Blood on baritone, Barbara Gallets on clarinet, and Jessica Bower on flute. more

Hilton High School's Mock Trial Team competed in the Monroe County quarter-finals held in a courtroom at the Hall of Justice in Rochester. An employment discrimination case was tried by the Hilton team representing the plaintiff and McQuaid High School represented the defendant. more

Bright Raven Gymnasts competed at the 2004 Niagara Cup held March 5-7 at University of Buffalo Alumni Arena and brought home many awards. more

Spencerport athletes qualify for scholar awards
Five Spencerport winter athletic teams qualified for the NYSPHSAA Team Scholar Athlete Award during the 2004 season. In order to qualify, a team must have a team grade point average of 90 percent or above. more
