Canal benefits from local clean-up efforts
The Adopt-A-Trail Committee of the Town of Sweden conducted its annual end-of-season sweep of the Erie Canal towpath on Saturday, October 23. About 60 volunteers participated in the program this year. They performed more than 250 hours of service on the canal bank, especially litter control. more

Clarkson Historical Society welcomes new members
The Clarkson Historical Society was formed from a group of concerned Clarkson residents who wanted to help save the old Clarkson Schoolhouse. And this year, members say, the Schoolhouse has been saved with the installation of a new roof. more

Fire training facility dedicated in Brockport
Brockport Firefighters recently cut the ribbon and dedicated the new Live Burn Training Facility at the old Owens-Illinois site, on Owens Road just north of the railroad tracks. The property is owned by the Allied Group. more

Fundraising fest planned for lifesaving transplant
Jenna Stothard, who was diagnosed with kidney disease when she was two years old, has been battling the disease for the past 18 years of her life. Now 20, she awaits a small bowel and kidney transplant at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. more

Kodak establishes $1 million economic development fund
Kodak has announced that it is providing a$1 million grant to the Monroe County Development Corporation (MCDC) to be used to assist local businesses in creating and retaining jobs and to attract new businesses to the area. more

Hilton-Parma Recreation holds Halloween celebration
Hilton-Parma Recreation's Halloween Celeberation Saturday, October 23, brought out a crowd. Over 350 children and their families were treated to food, games, live entertainment, horseback rides, a haunted house, witch's story hour, and a huge parade featuring the costumed children, along with the Hilton Marching Band and the Hilton Fire Department. more

Holley first-grader Juliana Mattison is stronger than she looks as she tests the weight of a giant squash at Partyka Farms in Kendall. Students had a chance to use an old fashioned apple press, drink fresh apple cider, eat donut holes and take a wagon ride out to the orchard to pick apples during their recent trip. more

Red Ribbon Week observed
Students in Hilton's Northwood Elementary School walked together and tied red ribbons around the outside of the school October 25 with Physical Education Teacher Colleen Coles during national Red Ribbon Week. more

Black Belts earned by locals at Gillam Grant
Japanese Sword Instructors Richard Hawley, Stanley Stephenson and David Nagel were promoted to second degree Black Belt (Ni-Dan) in laido on October 23. To earn their promotions, all demonstrated proficiency in sword katas, techniques, teaching and history. more

Blue Devils netters second, Hage MVP
Brockport's girl's tennis team finished second to Fairport in Division I with a 5-1 record and in the Class AA sectionals with three positions advancing on to the State Qualifier. more

Cadets win and tie in final weeks
A little over one week after Hilton's field hockey team won the first game in the team's history - 2-1 over Pittsford-Sutherland, the Cadets played Webster-Thomas to a 0-0 tie in the final regular season home game for seven seniors. more

Eagles after fourth straight title
The Kendall Eagles took the first step for what they hope to be their fourth consecutive Section Five Class CCC girl's soccer title when they trounced Oakfield-Alabama 8-0 in the first round of the playoffs. Jamie Ergott scored two goals and an assist, Angel Privitera added two goals and Lauren Cole had two assists in the shutout. more

Recreation's future studied
The Town of Parma has released to the public a Recreation Needs Analysis report prepared by Stuart I. Brown Associates, Inc. This comprehensive study commissioned by the Parma Town Board completes an eight-month fact finding process which included discussions with the local youth sport organizations, the Hilton-Parma Recreation & Parks Commission and village board representatives. more

Saints, Rangers prep for playoffs
Churchville-Chili and Spencerport met for what has become a traditional late season boy's volleyball grudge match with the Saints coming away with a 26-24, 25-14, 22-25, 25-18 victory. more
