Spencerport school board election now has five candidates
Two incumbents and three write-in candidates are seeking election to the Spencerport Board of Education. Voters will be asked to choose from the five potential board members to fill three open seats. (There may be more write-in candidates, but at press time three had announced their intentions to this newspaper). more

Westside Habitat Coalition works to help those in need
Scott Boyce realizes the irony in his work as fundraising chair of the Westside Habitat Coalition. Nine local Christian churches have pledged to raise $35,000 to refurbish a home on Arbutus Street in downtown Rochester. The long-time contractor, and member of the United Methodist Church of North Chili, recently found himself on the verge of homelessness. more

Random traffic checks planned
The Orleans County Sheriff's Office, along with other area law enforcement agencies, will be conducting random traffic checkpoints throughout the county from May 23 to June 5 to promote the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee's Buckle-Up New York - Click It or Ticket campaign. more

Residents interested in updates and progress on the Route 531 extension project can now go to a project specific website to learn about the project, provide comments or take a survey. more

Trail system presentation scheduled
A presentation on the Community Trail System will be made at the Boetcher Lodge located in Pineway Ponds Park. Representatives from Victor Hiking Trails, the Genesee Transportation Council and the Genesee Region Trails Coalition will present their current trail systems, how they got started and discuss regional trail conductivity in the area. more

Governor George E. Pataki and Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi unveiled Patriot Plan III - legislation that would provide expanded benefits to New York's military personnel and their families and build on the historic Patriot Plans I and II, which were signed into law in 2003 and 2004. more

BOCES 2 students enjoy their prom
Nearly 60 students from several BOCES 2 special education classes danced the night away Friday, May 6 at the Airport Marriott. The students participated in their prom, the annual Spring Dinner Dance. more

Hilton veterinarian Dr. Dean Snyder works with students interested in veterinary careers. Students in Hilton's Merton Williams Middle School eighth grade Family and Consumer Science classes have been exploring career options. more

Ginther Elementary receives high honors
Brockport's Ginther Elementary School has been designated as a high achieving school for English language learners (ELL) by the NYS Education Department. more

New Visions students raise funds for Lakeside
Students from New Visions of BOCES II held a candy sale at Lakeside donating proceeds of $500. New Visions is a career group offered by BOCES II in Spencerport to high school seniors. more

Hilton-Parma Seniors can travel to hear Songs of the Opry
The Hilton-Parma Seniors will be traveling to Brantford, Ontario, Canada on Wednesday, June 15. This trip includes a sit-down luncheon at the Old School Restaurant, matinee performance of the Walters Family presenting their Songs of the Old Opry at the historic Sanderson Centre. more

At the 27th Annual WHAM Sportswomen of the Year Awards Luncheon April 25 several area female athletes and contributors to women's sports were honored for 2004-05. more

Cadets seniors lead the way
Hilton won three of four singles matches and two of the three doubles matches in a 5-2 victory over Gates-Chili in high school boy's tennis. more

Disc golf course opens in Parma
The Rochester Disc Golf Club and the Town of Parma announced the grand opening of a new disc golf course in Parma's Town Park. On Saturday, May 14, officials cut the red ribbon, officially opening the newest nine holes of disc golf in western New York. more

Eagles squeak by Hawks
The doubles team of Andrew Kludt and Malory Lansberry won their match in a tie breaker to lead the Kendall Eagles to a 3-2 win over visiting Holley in high school tennis. more

Jr. Hawks needs football players and cheerleaders
The Jr. Hawks in Holley are seeking boys and girls interested in playing football and cheering. To be eligible the child must be seven-years-old before June 1 and no older than 15 by November 1. more
