Brockport museum dedicates interpretive sign
The Brockport Community Museum will dedicate its first interpretative sign on Friday, December 15 at 1 p.m. in front of the A.D. Oliver Middle School in Brockport. An historical synopsis of the Brockport Central School District (BCSD) is the subject of the two-by-three foot full color, illustrated sign which is mounted on a metal pedestal. more

Brockport Toy Shelf seeks donations
The Brockport Toy Shelf provides toys to local children, from newborn to age seventeen, each Christmas. Last year more than 600 children received toys, hats, mittens and books. This year the Toy Shelf is seeking new items, especially for the older kids; CD's, CD players, sports equipment, hats and gloves. more

Bridges named in honor of former Gates supervisor
The eastbound and westbound bridges of I-490 that span the Erie Canal have been renamed the "Supervisor Jack C. Hart Memorial Bridges." These crossings link the Town of Gates and the City of Rochester. more

Capital building project proposed in Bergen
The Byron-Bergen Central School District's Board of Education authorized the preliminary actions necessary to proceed with a district-wide capital building project. more

Gates supervisor receives MS Achievement Award
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) encourages awareness and promotes education and research on behalf of the over 400,000 people who live with the disease in this country and the estimated 2.5 million worldwide. more

Holley capital committee meets, chooses chairman
A cross-section of the Holley community came out to discuss the district's facility improvement plans and Superintendent Robert D'Angelo said it was "great to see so many people take an active role and interest in the future of the buildings and our children." more

House tour funds garden clubs' projects
The Twenty-Sixth Annual Candlelight Tour presented by the Seventh District Federated Garden Clubs of New York State was held in the Ogden-Spencerport area on Sunday afternoon, December 3. more

New minimum wage goes into effect January 1
Assemblymember Susan John (131st District) reminds employees and employers that the current minimum wage of $6.75 an hour will raise to $7.15 effective January 1, 2007, and food service workers receiving tips will see an increase to $4.60 an hour. more

No decision on Brockport's Smith Street bridge
The fate of the Smith Street bridge in the Village of Brockport is still up in the air. "We asked the DOT to give us specific answers to our questions before we can make a decision on what we are going to do with the bridge," Mayor Mort Wexler said at the December 4 board meeting. more

Public hearing set for Hamlin Comprehensive Master Plan
The Hamlin Town Board has completed the final touches on the revised Comprehensive Master Plan (CMP), which was referred to them in November 2005 by the CMP committee. A public hearing is planned for Wednesday, December 13 at 7:30 p.m. at the Hamlin Town Hall gymnasium to present the plan which is the first update to the town's Comprehensive Master Plan in 10 years. more

Jake Gildemeister and Peggy Kennedy display some of the bags of food stuff they have collected from other residents on Hillside Drive in Hilton. Kennedy had noted a November 26 Letter to the Editor in Suburban News that the Hilton Parma Emergency Food Shelf needed donations, so she decided to do something about that. more

take their 1st and 2nd degrees

Seven members from Council #7707 advanced to their 2nd degree, in a ceremony November 28 administered by Blessed Damien of Molokai Council #11411 and held at St. Anne Church in Rochester. more

State funding aids pager replacement for Churchville firemen
According to members of the Churchville Volunteer Fire Department, Senator Jim Alesi (R,C,I - Perinton) has facilitated a $15,000 grant to aid with equipment upgrades. more

Bees win in OT
It took an extra four minutes, but Byron-Bergen's boy's basketball team got their season off to a fast start with a 44-40 overtime victory at Holley. more

Blue Devils 1-1 to start
Brockport's high school hockey team defeated Hilton 4-3 to open the season, but fell to Webster-Thomas 7-0 on home ice in their second game. more

Boosters team up to support student athletics
The Spencerport Sports Booster Club (SSBC) is made up of parents who believe in supporting their children's sporting activities. This club is led by a five person board and hundreds of parents who have given their time working at concession stands during sporting events, fundraising and volunteering their time for a specific sport and for all Spencerport Central Schools (SCS) sports. more

Hilton #2 in Nation
After initially being denied the chance to defend their national title, the Hilton girl's cross country team was invited as one of two of the selection committee's at-large teams. In Portland, Oregon, the team finished second behind senior co-captain Allison Sawyer, who crossed the line in third and senior Caroline Schultz who came in 13th. more

Skiff leads Saints
Junior Morgan Skiff scored all but one of her game-high 13 points in the first half to lead Churchville-Chili to a 40-35 victory at Hilton in girls basketball. more
