On Saturday, March 17 Junior Troop 378 hosted a Brownie Event called Carnival Day. Eleven Brownie troops from the Black Creek Service Unit attended a day full of playing games, winning prizes and enjoying snacks and camaraderie. Troop 378 hosted the event as part of the requirements to earn the Girl Scout Bronze Award. more

The Greece and the Brockport Police Departments will receive new high-tech video and safety equipment through the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program. more

Overview of the POD pandemic drill at the Dome Arena
PODs are point-of-dispensing clinics and were established countywide under a Civil Preparedness Initiative announced by Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks on March 22. Under this initiative, every supervisor and mayor in the county agreed to identify and help operate a POD in the event of a large-scale public health emergency. more

Parma road dedicated in memory of Vietnam veterans
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks addressed the group assembled in the foyer of the Parma Town Hall March 22 and spoke of the sacrifices of David Lemcke, Gerald Wilson and John Waugh which are commemorated in new road signs. more

Suburban growth leads to proliferation of 'special districts'
More than one third of all special districts from across New York are in Erie, Monroe and Onondaga counties. According to a press release issued by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, special improvement districts in towns in New York have proliferated over the last 50 years in large part to address increased residential needs resulting from suburban growth. more

Holley principal gets "slimed" for a good cause
It's cold. It's green. It's wet, but if it gets kids to read, then it's okay with Holley Elementary Principal Lee Ann Cervini. She recently got "slimed" because her students read with a parent for 15 minutes a day, five days week from March 5 to 19 as part of the Parents As Reading Partners program. more
