Mill's towers proposal gets input from residents near and far
A plan by the Star of the West Milling Co. to build eight, 110-foot grain silos topped with 37.5-foot grain elevators on its property at 35 South Main Street in the Village of Churchville drew about 32 people to a public hearing February 27 where comments were balanced in support of and against the project. more

New Riga Town Hall plans unveiled
Riga officials unveiled plans last week for a new 14,000 square-foot, $1.5 to $2 million, town building to house Riga town offices and the Riga Town Court, which they hope to build on land west of the Harvey C. Noone American Legion Post, 6444 Buffalo Road beginning in spring of 2003. more

Scouts may receive land for new camp
Crystal Ridge Estates, the 311-acre residential project proposed in Sweden by developer Al Spaziano, may donate land for the Boy Scouts to build a new camp. The Scouts have been in search of a new location to replace the State Street camp, which had to be abandoned because of contamination. more

Spencerport approves capital project bids
The Spencerport School Board approved bids for the building of the new elementary school at its February 12 meeting. Rochester's Testa Construction won the general trade construction contract for the new elementary school. The board awarded five other contracts that night for structural steel, roofing, drywall/acoustical, case work and electrical for the new elementary school. more

Training for emergencies
While much of the devastation of September 11 struck hundreds of miles away, the entire nation is focused on what can be done if another such emergency ever arises. While it was not erected as a direct result of the tragedy, the new Monroe County Public Safety Training Facility (PSTF) on Scottsville Road is a visible sign that the Rochester area is taking major steps to ensure the community's safety. more

Brockport USPS drop boxes to be moved
Effective March 18, the U.S. Postal Service drop off boxes will be moved from their current location at 1 Clinton Street, The Brockport Police Department, to the Water Street Municipal Parking Lot which is located directly behind Jimmy Mac's Restaurant. more

Chili Historical Society holds annual meeting
The annual dinner meeting and election of officers for the Chili Historical Society will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at the Clifton Baptist Church, Clifton. more

Fairkids™ Audition set
Auditions to select members of the 2002 youth dance troupe, The Fairkids™, is set for Saturday March 9 at 1 p.m. at the Dome Center located on the Fairgrounds in Henrietta. Candidates must be residents of Monroe County or taking dance lessons in Monroe County, must be between the ages of 12 and 17 and must have a grade point average of at least a B-. more

Fifth annual FAST set
Brockport Ecumenical Outreach Committee (BEOC) is sponsoring its fifth NY State Labor-Religion Coalition 40-hour FAST event on Tuesday, March 5 at the First Presbyterian Church, 35 State Street, Brockport. The pre-FAST covered dish meal at 6 p.m. will be followed by a 7 p.m. service. more

The Monroe County Planning Board will hold information meetings on the county's proposed Capital Improvement Program for 2003-2008. A summary of the proposed Monroe County Capital Improvement Program will be available at the meetings. more

New York State Assemblyman Charlie Nesbitt (R,C-Albion) announced the recent award of $69,459 in workforce development grants to Genesee Community College. more

Churchville-Chili School Board posts budget development schedule
The Churchville-Chili Board of Education is in the process of developing a budget for the 2002-2003 school year. The community is invited to participate in the March 12 and March 26 meetings for a review of the total draft budget, including projected revenues and estimated tax rates. more

Hilton High School musical, "Guys & Dolls," presented March 7-10
"Guys & Dolls," the legendary Broadway musical, will be performed at Hilton High School, 400 East Avenue, Hilton, on March 7-10. more

Hilton School District budget process underway
The Hilton School District budget development process is underway through the next two months with a public vote set for Tuesday, May 21. The Hilton School District budget development process begins in December with the 2002-03 Budget Guidelines issued by the Business Office. more

Churchville-Chili High School students donated 2,862 books to Regional Transit Service (RTS) for its Books on the Bus program. RTS has been putting books on buses to encourage young riders to read. more

The Brockport Blue Devils scored three goals in the third period to defeat Gates-Chili 5-2 in the Class A high school hockey championship game. more

Brockport SEAS Swim Club hosts meet
The Brockport SEAS competitive swim club played host to 17 teams from the Niagara District at one of their annual invitational meets on Saturday, February 16. The venue was the recently refurbished Brockport High School natatorium. more

Empey, Donnelly share honors
Brockport High School hockey coach Scott Empey and Spencerport High School hockey coach Tom Donnelly were named Co-Coaches of the Year in the White Division of the Monroe County High School Hockey League. more

Gately scores last eight in Cadet win
Mark Gately picked a good time to score his only points of the game—the fourth quarter—as seventh-seeded Hilton overcame an eight-point deficit to defeat tenth seeded Franklin 44-43 in sectional boys basketball action. more

Limited openings available for golf classes
Jim Muszak, a PGA pro, will instruct groups of up to five students in the improvement of their golf swing in classes offered by Spencerport Continuing Education. Each class has three one-hour sessions and will be held in the Rochester Sports Dome. Advance registration is required. more

Reed & Shaw lead Saints
With their third-leading scorer Pat Martin fighting the flu, seniors Elijah Reed and Tony Shaw scored 48 of Churchville-Chili’s 57 points in a 57-50 basketball victory over Penfield in the first round of the sectional playoffs. more

Spencerport's Coaches vs. Cancer Program donates record amount
The Spencerport boys' basketball program donated a record $11,300 to the American Cancer Society through the Coaches vs. Cancer program. This donation is well over last year's record of $6,000. The total donated to the ACS over the past five years is $27,300. more
