Town to receive grants for record keeping
Some area governments have received grants from the New York State Archives, according to State Senator George Maziarz (R-C, North Tonawanda). The grants fall into two categories: Documentary Heritage Program grants awarded to community organizations and Local Government Records grants awarded to local governments. more

District Governor's first day
Rotary District 7120's newest governor, Donald Alhart, took office on July 1 and visited the Spencerport club on his first evening. The reason for this was that the local club presented him with a check for $3,200 to be used for the Rotary International Polio Eradication Campaign during the 2002-03 Rotary year. more

Fair competition applications available
Entry applications for competitions to be held at the 2002 Monroe County Fair are available now at the Fair Office, located in the Dome Center at the Monroe County Fairgrounds, and at Cornell Cooperative Extension, 249 Highland Avenue. Competitive contests will be held in the following categories: flowers, fruits, vegetables, foods, sewing and handwork, photography, painting, drawing and sculpture, toys and dolls, talent, livestock, rabbits, pigeons and poultry. more

Fenity elected Board of Education president
Lawrence Fenity was elected president of the Spencerport Board of Education for the second consecutive year at the board's organizational meeting held July 8. David Dorofy will continue as vice president for the 2002-03 school year. more

Genealogy Sunday at the Library July 14
The third Genealogy Sunday program is scheduled for July 14 at the Ogden Farmers' Library from noon to 4 p.m. The library will be open during that time for people who are doing genealogy and historical research. more

Night paving job scheduled on West Ridge Road
In recognition of the rough conditions on West Ridge Road in Greece, the New York State Department of Transportation is slated to start a maintenance project July 15 to pave Ridge Road between 390 and North Greece Road. In an effort to minimize impact to the business owners and travelers, arrangements with the town have been made to do the work at night between the approximate hours of 8 p.m. and 8 a.m. more

Brockport Schools band together to save lives
It all started last year when Hill Elementary School teacher Tammy Zaffuto decided to organize a team to participate in the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. This year, not only did the Hill School's 22-member "Hill for Hope" team participate a second year in the night-long relay, but teams from Oliver Middle School and Ginther Elementary School took part as well. more

Holley students receive citizenship award
Holley fifth-graders Jenny Rae Siplo and Devon Jedamski are this year's recipients of the Catherine B. Press Citizenship Award. The award is given annually to a fifth-grade girl and boy who display some of the same characteristics, such as caring, responsibility and good citizenship, as Catherine B. Press, who was a secretary at Holley Elementary School. more

Inventor's Hall of Fame
Brockport fourth-graders (l-r) Shannon Moore, Sabrina Heath and Kelan Fox had a lot of fun portraying inventors and their family members during the "Inventors' Hall of Fame," their end-of-school-year play. more

Scholarships awarded by Chili church
During the June 23 worship service at the First Presbyterian Church of Chili, Melinda Fatz, Shelly Kasiske, and Kelly Schmidt were recognized as this year's recipients of the John and Eda Reinhardt scholarships. more

Teachers at the All Saints Catholic Academy Class of 2002 graduation ceremony presented subject awards to the student who has consistently demonstrated a commitment to high quality homework along with a high interest level and a cooperative attitude. more

Summer Bowling - a social club for bowling and visiting with friends at AMF Olympic Lanes on Tuesdays, July 16 - September 3 from 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The cost is $4.99 per week and includes 3 games of bowling, shoe rental, coffee and donuts. Registration is still open for the Brockport YMCA's summer cultural arts program for children ages 5-11. Local artists Denise Purvis and Patricia Castro will take children on a multi-cultural adventure, where they will experience art, music, dance, games, and many other exciting activities from countries around the world. more

Harter named as Spencerport Boys Basketball coach
Joshua Harter has been named as the Spencerport Rangers new varsity boys basketball coach. He replaces Mike Blackwell who coached the Rangers for eight years. more

Martial arts teacher earns
Black Sash in Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do
Bergen martial arts instructor Cyndy Jones was promoted to Black Sash Instructor in Bruce Lee's martial art of Jun Fan Gung Fu - Jeet Kune Do (JKD). Jones was promoted by Sifu Kevin Seaman of Cortland, on July 2. more

Run/Walk to benefit United Way
The 2nd Annual United Way 5k/3.1 mile run/walk to benefit the United Way of Eastern Orleans County will take place on Saturday, August 24 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Orleans County Marine Park at the intersection of Route 98 and the Lake Ontario Parkway at Point Breeze and will be run on a scenic route along Ontario Lake. more

Teams compete in gymnastics meet
The Victors Gymnastics and Cheerleading Training Center in Greece completed its gymnastics season at the Level 4 and 5 States at Valley Gymnastics in New Hartford, New York. more
