Holiday Art Show sets up exhibits in Spencerport storefront
The Suburban Rochester Art Group (SRAG) is planning a Holiday Gallery Show at Struck Floor Fashions, Village Plaza, in Spencerport. The show opens on Tuesday, October 28 and runs through December 24. SRAG will host an opening reception with refreshments and time to meet the artists on Thursday, October 30 from 5 to 7 p.m. more

Ogden residents will see tax increase
In a meeting attended by over forty residents of Ogden, Town Supervisor Gay Lenhard and Kathleen Saville, Finance Director, reported that taxes in the town, including the village of Spencerport, will be forced to rise almost 4 percent for 2004. State mandates have forced the tax increase. The Town of Ogden has not had a tax increase in four years. more

Orleans County youth participate in state-wide public speaking event
The fifth annual NYS 4-H Public Presentations Event was held on the Cornell University campus in Ithaca on October 4, 2003. Sixty-four 4-H members from 37 counties ranging in ages from 13 to 18 participated in the event in the categories of Demonstration, Illustrated Talk, Speech, Recitation, and Dramatic Interpretation. more

Residents raise concerns at Ogden town meeting
Residents from the Town of Ogden addressed a variety of concerns to Town Supervisor Gay Lenhard, State Senator George Maziarz and State Assemblyman Bill Reilich in a meeting held on Saturday, October 11. more

Safe driving tips involve school bus laws
Orleans County Sheriff Scott D. Hess wants the public to be aware that next week October 20-26 is National School Bus Safety Week. For twenty-three million students nationwide, their school day begins and ends with a trip on a school bus. more

Community First Candidates Gary Skoog, Bob Capo and Jennifer Skoog-Harvey met with Sweden town and Brockport village residents at the West Avenue Fire Hall on October 15. The evening was spent talking about the Community First platform and responding to residents' questions and concerns. more

At its regular meeting October 14, the Hilton Central School District Board of Education granted Hilton Superintendent of Schools John Cooper an immediate leave of absence for an indefinite duration. more

Holley District to host Breast Cancer Awareness speaker
In observation of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Holley Central School District will be hosting a speaker from the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester Inc. on Thursday, October 23 from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Holley Elementary School cafetorium. more

B-B Netters sweep Wheatland
Byron-Bergen's girls volleyball team continued their strong 2003 campaign with a 25-9, 25-15, 25-13 sweep over Wheatland-Chili. After winning the first game handily, the Bees had no more than two starters in for the final two games allowing the whole team to contribute. more

Bees runners tops
Byron-Bergen and Kendall traveled to picturesque Holley Canal Park for a cross-country meet and the Bees came away winning both the girls and boys competitions handily. more

Saints netters still perfect
Churchville-Chili improved their season record to 15-0 and they had yet to lose a single game as they defeated Brockport 25-18, 25-11 and 25-13 at the Saints Homecoming in boy's volleyball. more

Saints swimmers swamp Cadets
Churchville-Chili won the first six events on their way to a 91-59 girls swimming victory over Hilton. more

Small pond - big fish
Unionville Station is a senior condo development about a mile south from the village of Hilton and it has a small holding pond on the west side of Route 259. Apparently, one of the builders has been stocking the pond for the past few years with small fish caught along Lake Ontario. more

Target archery in Parma
Students in the Hilton-Parma Target Archery program had a chance to see how bow strings were made when Al Howe of the Parma Archers brought his equipment to the target range. The Target Archery program will run every Saturday, with the last class on November 15. more
