B-B's New Millennium Project voted down
Voters in the Byron-Bergen Central School District voted down a $29.5 million "New Millennium Capital Project," at the polls June 6. Results from the district office show the borrowing proposal lost by a vote of 658 to 543. A second bonding proposal for $1.6 million in site improvements was also rejected by a vote of 690 to 443. more

Brockport receives grant for concert series

At a presentation ceremony on June 2, the Lakeside Memorial Hospital Twig Association awarded its annual scholarships to five students. These $1,000 scholarships are presented to students who are working toward a degree in the health care field. more

Local sale benefits African children
Proceeds from a May garage sale in Spencerport will aid children thousands of miles away in Kenya and other African locations thanks to the efforts of Kiwanis Club of Spencerport member Heide Reinschmidt and her husband, Joe, and the many community residents who donated items. more

Riga board works on Home Rule draft
As members of the Riga Town Board held a special meeting Thursday morning June 14 to discuss a Home Rule Message it is seeking from the state, a bill authorizing the Town of Riga to establish a Host Benefit Agreement reserve fund was introduced into the Assembly. more

Riga board votes on recycling center;
hears plans for Firemen's Convention
About 40 people were in the audience at the June 12 Riga Town Board meeting which began with a presentation about the Western New York Volunteer Firemen's Convention by Forrest Skelton. The convention will be held in Churchville July 25 through 28. Skelton told the town board that activities include business meetings, a memorial service for firefighters who have died during the past year, an award ceremony and EMS and fire police training sessions. more

There may be a few stalling points in some parts of the phases of the Spencerport village sewer project but it continues to move forward, Spencerport Mayor Ted Walker said. more

Two Spencerport Ambulance personnel charged by OPD
“Anytime the police are involved in a situation like this, it’s disappointing,” Ogden Police Chief Nordquist said at a press conference on June 13. The situation is one in which the department has charged Jeff Tewksbury, director of operations for the Spencerport Volunteer Ambulance Corps. more

Hilton HS Scholar Athlete Awards recognized at Cadet Appreciation Night
Hilton High School Athletic Department has recognized 2006-07 scholar athletes at its annual Cadet Appreciation Night on May 31. In the fall of 2006, 100 percent of the Hilton teams were Scholar Athlete Teams (average GPA for all team members was 90 percent or above) and in the winter/spring, nine out of 10 teams, and in the spring, six out of seven teams met the criteria established by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). more

New administrators hired at BCSD
The Brockport Central School District Board of Education announced the appointments of two assistant superintendents. Middle School Principal Rob Banzer was named assistant superintendent for instruction, succeeding Dr. Robert Conrad who is retiring and Melissa Fingar, Esq. succeeds acting assistant superintendent for human resources Allan Berry. Both will begin their new roles July 1. more
