Area contractor joins Glenn-Douglas Constructors
Glenn-Douglas Constructors (GDC), based in Honeoye Falls, has added its newest member to their team. Adam Johnson, owner of Earth Movers, of Holley, has been hired to add his experience to the general contracting business and expand its Facilities Maintenance operation. more

Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 4-8 holds year-end awards
Flotilla 4-8 stationed in Hamlin held its year-end awards on January 27 at Hilton Family Diner in Hilton. Over 60 personal awards were given that included flotilla and division recognition. more

Harris kidney transplant successful
On January 24, David Harris donated one of his kidneys to his wife, Barbara Harris. The transplant at Strong Memorial Hospital was accomplished by Dr. Abel Bozorgzadeh, who removed David's kidney, and Dr. Mark Orloff, who prepared Barbara to receive it. It was a five-hour operation and a complete success. The transplanted kidney began working immediately. more

Health Expo 2003 offers info and testing
Health Expo 2003, scheduled for Sunday, March 2, 2 to 6 p.m. at 4617 Lake Road South, old HSBC building (second light from intersection of Routes 31 and 19), Brockport, is a free community service event sponsored by the Brockport Seventh-day Adventist Church. more

Lakeside Hospital medical staff elects officers
The Medical Staff of Lakeside Memorial Hospital elected new officers to serve during the 2003 year. Dr. Paul C. Axford was elected president. Dr. Axford specializes in Obstetrics and Gynecology with offices in Brockport, Albion and Spencerport. more

North Chili United Methodist Church celebrates 150th anniversary
The United Methodist Church of North Chili, 2200 Westside Drive (at the corner of Buffalo Road), Rochester, is celebrating their 150th anniversary. It was founded in 1853 on a Buffalo Road site across from the cemetery. It moved to its present location in 1964. more

RPO offers evenings of music at SUNY Brockport
The State University of New York College at Brockport's School of Arts and Performance offers a series of entertaining and informative evenings with Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra musicians. more

Teacher recognition program launched by local business
Great teachers deserve to be recognized, and the Greece Sam's Club plans to do just that through its eighth annual Teacher of the Year program, which kicks off Saturday, February 8. more

Otetiana Council to honor 185 Eagle Scouts
at annual recognition luncheon

The Otetiana Council of the Boy Scouts of America salutes the 185 local young men who earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 2002. The 2003 Eagle Scout Recognition Luncheon takes place at noon on March 7 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rochester. SUNY Chancellor Robert King serves as the Keynote Speaker. more

Spring concert will offer old and new selections
The Spencerport Community Chorus will present its annual Spring Concert on Saturday, March 1 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 2 at 3 p.m. Both concerts will be held at the First Congregational Church (the Historic White Church) on Church Street in Spencerport. The concerts are free, with baskets available for donations. Receptions will follow the concerts. more

Class Acts is about quality and variety

The "Class Acts" variety show, scheduled for March 8, has been Brockport High's annual in-school entertainment sensation since its beginning 17 years ago. The general public can't get into the one-night show because the coveted tickets go only to school students and staff. more

Transportation service to continue in Parma
Since 1990, the Town of Parma has been transporting the senior population with their Senior Citizen Express Service. This van transportation utilizes a combination of volunteers, paid part-time staff, and Hilton-Parma Recreation staff when shuttling seniors to and from the Senior Nutrition Center for meals and social opportunities, and to area plazas for groceries, banking, and activities such as the Out-to-Lunch Bunch. more

Arnold pin leads Cadets
Senior Brad Arnold made his last appearance on the home mat a memorable one as he pinned his man in just :29 in the 171 lb. class as Hilton trounced Greece Arcadia 59-18 in high school wrestling. more

Bright Raven gymnasts take first place
Bright Raven Gymnastics Level 6 Team captured first place at the Valentine Invitational hosted by Buffalo Turners Gymnastics in Kenmore, NY, February 9. All seven members of the Bright Raven team earned individual honors and contributed to the team's win. more

Brockport gymnasts again break school scoring record
Junior Carrie Santore (Webster/Webster) scored a season high 37.250 in the all-around to lead the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles in a 181.0250-176.8500 win over visiting Springfield College February 9. With the 181.0250 points, Brockport breaks the school's scoring record for the third time this season. more

Knights of Columbus free-throw contest results
Two Hilton area youths were successful in the District Competition of the state-wide Free Throw Shooting Contest, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. more

Leasure leads Blue Devil comeback
Jennifer Leasure scored nine of her team-high 21 points in the fourth quarter to lead Brockport to a 63-50 come-from-behind victory over Irondequoit in a consolation game in the Monroe County Girl's Basketball Tournament. more

Nelson leads Hawks senior night win
Holley senior Matt Nelson wears number 23, so it was more than appropriate that he finished with 23 points on Senior Night as Holley defeated Kendall 65-49 February 11. more

Placito scores 18 in Ranger loss
Eighteenth seeded Brighton outscored the Rangers 33-23 in the second half and defeated 19th ranked Spencerport 53-48 in Monroe County Tournament boy's basketball action February 10. more

Saints point toward next year
Churchville-Chili lost their first round Monroe County Tournament boy's basketball game to Webster Schroeder 71-48 and no victories this season, but the Saints won the fourth quarter 27-11 with a court filled with players back for next season. more

Summer soccer tournament planned at sports center
Total Sports Experience, Rochester's newest state-of-the-art sports center, will host the Greece Cobra's 13th Annual Soccer Tournament July 11-13. more
