Clarkson budget below 1990 rates
Town of Clarkson Supervisor Paul Kimball said his philosophy is for the town to pay for major purchases with cash - and that is something it has done since 1990. Because of that and other fiscal measures put in place, taxpayers in the town will see their tax rate per $1,000 of assessed value decreased by 11 cents. more

COMIDA abatements could help plaza renewal
SPENCERPORT - With the approval of tax abatements by the County of Monroe Industrial Development Agency (COMIDA), officials and business owners in the Town of Ogden and Village of Spencerport hope new life will come to Spencerport Village Plaza. Since the closing of the grocery store, the plaza, located at 28 Slayton Avenue on the Erie Canal, is about 50 percent vacant. more

DEC seeks public input on managing black bears
A series of four public meetings will be held to provide an overview of the natural history of black bears, their current status and management activities in New York state. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) seeks public input on future management. more

Ogden Police Department purchases new weapons
Ogden Police Sgt. Al Krause holds one of 20 new weapons purchased by the department using $12,000 in grant funding. The .45 caliber Smith & Wessons replace 17-year old guns of the same make and size and are manufactured for police and military use. more

Ogden taxpayers to see no increase
In the face of double digit health insurance premium increases, Town of Ogden officials dipped into the fund balance to keep the property tax rates under the 2008 budget at the same level as the current year's budget. more

Dr. Marijo Pearson has been named the BOCES 2 Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development, replacing Dr. Pam Kissel, who became the Superintendent of Schools for the Churchville-Chili Central School District. more

Fire safety lessons
As part of Fire Safety Week, Heather Case's and Nancy Tesse's BOCES 2 Transition classes were visited by Case's husband, Spencerport Volunteer Fire Department Safety Officer Doug Case. Students learned about fire safety and fire fighting equipment. They tried on Case's coat, leggings, boots and helmet and sat in pumper truck 2914. more

The Hilton High School Child Psychology and Development classes of teachers Helaine Donn and Linda Cribbs are inviting parents who have infants and toddlers to visit their classes. "The high school students will observe the children and ask questions of the parents about their child's development," said Donn. more

Officials from the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) in Genesee and Orleans Counties said that due to the drought, the refuge will have a reduced number of waterfowl hunting areas available this season. more

SUNY Brockport senior outside hitter Shae Gilmore registered a team-high 17 kills in a four-game women's volleyball loss to RIT. The offensive output brought her to within one of the all time school record for career kills. more
