Contract ratified for Hilton school district's teachers
With a vote of 269 to 15, members of the Hilton Central School Teachers Association (HCSTA) ratified a three-year contract with the Hilton Central School District. more

DeToy bids Brockport board farewell
Emotions ran high as Trustee Peter DeToy bid farewell to fellow board members at the June 21 regular board meeting. DeToy, who is retiring, has served the Village of Brockport as a trustee since September 1, 1993. more

Lakeside Beikirch Care Center adds elevator
Lakeside Beikirch Care Center celebrated the official opening of its second elevator with a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 26. Residents, employees and members of the community who contributed to the project were invited to celebrate this very welcomed addition to the Care Center. more

Open burning code prompts heated discussion
Residents in the Village of Brockport turned out June 21 to discuss the village's proposed changes to its open burning law. The changes were proposed as a result of increased complaints from residents about recreational fires burning within the village limits. more

Medina Memorial Hospital recently received a $127,318 rural health grant. Assembly Republican Leader Charles H. Nesbitt (R,C,I - Albion) said the grant will ensure access to quality health care for rural Orleans County residents. more

Popular exhibit expands in Spencerport
Last summer, it was estimated that several thousand people followed the Pathways to the Past photographic walking tour within the Village of Spencerport. "We went through 5,000 brochures," reported Patty Uttaro, Director of the Ogden Farmers' Library. Uttaro, along with Village Trustee Tim Peer, was instrumental in putting this exhibit together. more

Road closings announced
A portion of Hamlin Parma Town Line Road, between Huffer and North Hamlin Roads in the Town of Hamlin, will be closed starting at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, for a 14 week period for reconstruction of the bridge over Brush Creek, according to the Monroe County Department of Transportation. more

Trinity Lutheran Church pastor retirement reception June 27
Spencerport's Trinity Lutheran Church Pastor Charles Alspaugh will retire Sunday, June 27. There will be two worship services that Sunday at the church, 191 Nichols Street (Rt. 31), Spencerport. A retirement reception will follow from noon to 5 p.m. to celebrate Pastor Alspaugh's years of ministry and service. more

National Student Council conference

Four students from Brockport High School's Class of 2005 - Nicole Poupore, Christina Chinappi, Bethany Gill and Caitlin Myers - will be among the 1,800 student council leaders attending the 68th Annual National Association of Student Councils (NASC) National Conference at Silverado High School in Las Vegas, Nevada, June 26-30. more

Building ideas for the future
On May 7, ten students from the Churchville-Chili Junior High School Technology Club attended an engineering fair at Rochester Institute of Technology. Engineering firms from the Rochester area sponsored the fair and provided demonstrations and games for students. more

C-C student chosen as 2004 Young Citizen of the Year
The Rochester-Monroe County Youth Bureau and Board and the Monroe County Legislature selected Nicole Johnson, a fifth-grader at Churchville-Chili Intermediate School as a 2004 Young Citizen of the Year. Nicole was presented this award by the Monroe County Legislature during a proclamation ceremony on June 8. more

Kendall students help the world
see and hear more clearly

Kendall Elementary students recently collected 265 pairs of eyeglasses and hearing aids to donate to the Kendall Lions Club. The Lions Club recycles the items to help less fortunate people around the world see and hear more clearly. more

Memorial garden donations sought
A memorial garden is being created at the main entrance of Churchville-Chili Senior High. Community members wishing to donate items for the garden in memory of a loved one may do so. more

Nature club a success with middle school students
Students in the Nature Club at the A.D. Oliver Middle School, along with many of their parents, recently had the chance to learn how to make an arrowhead by flint knapping, found edible spring plants, and practiced friction fire-making during a field trip to Northampton Park. more

Girls on the 11 and under Blizzard soccer team emerged victorious at the recent Hilton Heat Soccer Tournament. They shut out the three games leading to the championship game. more

Bright Raven gymnasts brought home awards following competition in the USA Gymnastics Upstate New York Championships. more

Karate enthusiasts earn black belts
In recent black belt promotion tests held at the Gillam Grant Center in Byron-Bergen, Sensei Melissa Suter was promoted to San-Dan (third degree black belt). Suter is 17 years old and has been training under Shihan Cyndy Jones since age seven. more

Local BMX-er takes home first place prize
Tony Hamlin recently won first place in professional level at East Coast Terminal's BMX "La Revolution" Bike Competition in Binghamton. He took home $750 and a new Fender guitar worth over $800. more

Parma baseball fields a big hit
The Town of Parma baseball and softball diamonds at Parma Town Park have a new look thanks to the Parma Town Board focus with renovating each of the eight ballfields. Work began this spring under the direction of the Parks Department with the renovation of one backstop, the installation of safety bench fences on all eight fields, relocating two fields within the Park and Athletic Complex, and constructing a homerun fence on one of the premier fields. more

Rowland named regional Coach of the Year
SUNY Brockport Head Baseball Coach Mark Rowland has been named the 2004 NCAA Division III ABCA/Rawlings New York Region Coach of the Year. more

Local women win gold for the third time
Two local women, Gloria Miller of Greece and Millie Gianfagna of Brockport, won the gold medal for the third year in a row in the 75-80 doubles bracket at the 2004 Empire State Senior Games held June 8-12 at SUNY Cortland. more
