Cold complicates fuel spill clean up
A gash in an underground pipe in the Erie Canal in Gates that spilled close to 30,000 gallons of fuel, has migrated west toward Spencerport and Adams Basin in Ogden and on to the Village of Brockport. The leak was discovered on December 15. The events surrounding the gash in the pipe are under investigation. more
Fire Police celebrate 50 years
In 1954, a group of concerned members of the Brockport Fire Department, led by former Monroe County Under Sheriff John "Jack" Kinicutt, joined together to form the Brockport Fire Department Fire Police Squad. more
Life Solutions of Hamlin and Fire Department
team up to help Santa deliver Christmas
Everyone involved agreed that a new tradition was born in Hamlin. The morning of Saturday, December 18, the Hamlin Fire Department provided several fire trucks and crews to help Santa deliver toys, holiday dinners and Christmas trees to some of the clients of Life Solutions of Hamlin. more
Tops project to be on planning board agenda in January
Tops Markets has completed the steps of obtaining sign variances from the Hamlin Zoning Board and are moving into the next stages in their quest toward constructing a fueling station at the northwest corner of the parking lot of the supermarket in Hamlin. more
VFW Auxiliary members visit veteran's hospital
The District 8 Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars welcomed New York State President Terry McGarr for an official visit at the recent meeting. McGarr presented District President Phyllis Walker an American flag to be given to a local fire department and a book entitled, "The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge," to be given to an elementary school. more

C-C Leo Club donates to Lakeside
Lakeside Health System received a unique donation of 300 pounds of pop can tabs from the Churchville-Chili Leo Club. The donation adds to the "Pop Your Top for Lakeside" fundraiser which started in 2002. Donations of pop can tabs are collected and recycled. Proceeds benefit Lakeside. more
Committee forming for 25th Apple Fest
The 25th Hilton Apple Fest will be held on October 1 and 2, 2005. A committee is being organized to plan some special activities for the event. more
Holley Rotary Club honors member
The Holley Rotary Club recognized one of its members for his contributions to the club and the community. Receiving a Paul Harris Fellow Award was Rotarian John Pedley. more
Lakeside's young patients receive treats
Lakeside's young patients will receive special treats this holiday season and throughout the year thanks to several children in the community who donated toys to Lakeside. more
Pick-A-Pumpkin major fundraiser for March of Dimes
Mike Ward of Ward Management LLC, owner of Holley Jubilee, Spencerport IGA and Towne Plaza IGA in North Chili and other grocery stores, received a letter of congratulations from March of Dimes Community Director Kate Gruschow. more
Spencerport Kiwanis delivers toys
The Kiwanis Club of Spencerport delivered a total of 500 toys with a total retail value of over $7,500 to three organizations they supported for the holidays. more

Assemblyman Bill Reilich (R,C,I-Greece) reminds constituents that with the new year can come an influx of e-mails, sometimes with promises of increased or new credit lines to lure unsuspecting victims. This identity theft scam, known as "phishing," makes it possible for a con artist to steal a victim's identity and run up huge bills in that person's name. more

B-B 8th graders' project benefits Ronald McDonald House
Byron-Bergen Middle School's 8th grade tech class delivered tic-tac-toe boards to the Ronald McDonald House of Rochester on December 21. The tech students who have been studying mass production, engineering and design for the past few weeks in Jay Wolcott's class, created tic-tac-toe boards. more
Brockport students "Do The Right Thing"
Two Brockport students have been honored for doing the right thing when faced with emergency situations. Justin Holberton, a seventh-grader at Oliver Middle School, and Kayla Pack, a fourth-grader at Hill Elementary, both received "Do The Right Thing" Awards from the Rochester Police Department at the Public Safety Building on December 16. more
Driver Education classes offered in Spencerport
There will be a meeting of parents and students who wish to be enrolled in Spencerport Continuing Education's Spring Driver Education class. The meeting will be held Tuesday, January 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Board of Education meeting room in the Administration Building at 71 Lyell Avenue, Spencerport. The building will open at 4 p.m. more
Fitness equipment arrives under PE grant
A rock climbing wall, rope course, adventure equipment, mountain bikes, inline skates, cross country skis, snow boards and digital fitness assessment may sound like equipment found at the world's best vacation resorts. But they are just some of what will soon be found in the Brockport Central School District, thanks to a $457,653 grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Carol M. White Physical Education Program. more
School superintendent search begins in January
The Spencerport Central School District Board of Education has selected Dr. Christopher Manaseri, new District Superintendent of Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES, to chair the selection committee for the new Spencerport superintendent. The current district leader, Phillip W. Langton, will retire in June. more

Bright Raven gymnasts win at Candy Cane Classic
Bright Raven Gymnastics Club in Gates played host to the 2004 Candy Cane Classic December 4 and 5 with nearly 250 gymnasts competing from 11 upstate New York programs. Many of the Bright Raven gymnasts finished on top in the all around and individual event competition. more

Public invited to first induction ceremony for BCSD Wall of Honor
An induction ceremony will be held for individuals featured on the Brockport Central School District's Athletic Wall of Honor on Tuesday, December 28 at 7:45 p.m. The ceremony will take place prior to the start of the Brockport Boys Varsity Basketball game in the lower gym at the A.D. Oliver Middle School. more
Rangers fall to top-seeded Penfield
Number one ranked Penfield handed Spencerport their fourth loss of the season with a three-game 25-10, 25-15, 25-19 sweep over the Rangers in girl's volleyball. The Patriots never trailed at any point in the match. more
Schwind, Fose score in Cadets' loss
Trailing 3-0 with less than ten minutes remaining in the final period, Hilton's Erik Schwind and then Jon Fose each scored goals, but the Cadets could not get the equalizer in a 3-2 loss to Aquinas in high school hockey. more
Spencerport's Ryan going into Hall of Fame
On April 7 at the RIT Marriott, Section Five will induct their eighth class into the football Hall of Fame and Spencerport resident Sean Ryan will be among those on the dais. more
