Chili thruway exit will not be pursued
County Executive Jack Doyle has announced the Preliminary Initial Findings Report on the proposed Thruway Interchange 46A project in the Town of Chili. Based on this initial report, the thruway exit project will not move forward due to limited economic development potential. more
Churchville Lion nominated to international post
John Rabideau, a 26-year member of the Churchville Lions Club, was recently endorsed by the Lions of New York State and Bermuda, to be their candidate for international director. Rabideau was endorsed at the New York State and Bermuda Lions Convention in Saratoga Springs, April 27-29. Rabideau will be elected to the International Board of Directors of Lions Clubs International in Osaka, Japan in July 2002. more

Locally grown corn makes its 2001 debut
Many local farms are now picking early varieties of sweet corn this weekend. Picking will be in full swing around July 20, according to Bob King, agricultural specialist. The season runs from July 4 until hard frost in late September or early October. more
Monroe County Fair to hold twirling contest
On Wednesday, August 1, the Monroe County Fair will hold a Miss/Mr. Majorette Contest at 4:30 p.m. in the Barnstormers Festival Tent on the Fairgrounds. Three separate contests opened to all ages are planned; the Miss/Mr. Monroe County Fair; the Miss/Mr. Monroe County Majorette/Major and the Best Appearing Majorette/Major. Winners are eligible to enter the State Finals in the fall. more
Ogden Commission accepts Parks & Recreation report
At their May meeting the Ogden CASE (Commission to Analyze Savings & Efficiency) accepted a final Parks & Recreation report. The report recommended that as the town develops and moves forward, there becomes a real need for a formalized prioritized master plan for this department. Program needs, facilities and future parks should be studied, pursued and recommended to the town board. more

Bailey Road resident Henrietta Decker turned 100 years of age on July 12 and was feted at celebrations at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Frewsburg, New York and the First Bible Baptist Church on North Greece Road. more
Retiring food shelf director honored
Mary Ellen Baker, director of the Brockport Ecumenical Food Shelf for the past 10 years, retired June 30. She was honored for her long service at a picnic and presentation ceremony at the home of Bill and Monika Andrews, 46 College Street, on June 27. About 25 members of the food shelf's board of directors, volunteers, and their families attended. more

Work scheduled to begin on Spencerport School District's capital project
Work is scheduled to begin as early as July 23 on the Spencerport School District's capital project. Bids for the first phase of the project, which includes asbestos abatement and new roofing at the high school and middle school, opened July 11. more
Youth Bureau begins 2002 funding process
Each year, the Genesee-Orleans Youth Bureau administers population-based state aid made available to Genesee and Orleans Counties by the NYS Office of Children and Family Services. In each county, the Youth Board reviews all proposals and submits funding recommendations to the County Legislature for final approval. Funding is available for youth development programs that serve youth up to age 21. Priority is given to programs that focus on asset development and risk reduction. more
