Brockport ecumenical discussion series
will apply faith and science to environmental issues
Clergy and college professors will lead a discussion series, "God's Earth Our Home," in Brockport each Thursday in October (4th, 11th, 18th, 25th) at the First Baptist Church, 124 Main Street. The sessions will start at 7 p.m. The First Presbyterian Church, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, and Newman Oratory also are uniting in the project to consider religious and scientific perspectives on the current environmental crisis. more
Brockport to renew Power Alternatives quest
The Village of Brockport has decided to pick up the ball with regards to the possibility of forming a municipal utility. The purpose is to offer gas and/or electricity customers a choice in energy sources resulting in lower costs. The village had been meeting with representatives of Power Alternatives, a firm which helped the Village of Hilton form a municipal utility. more
Cool Kids fall slate set
Cool Kids, a family event sponsored by the Brockport Student Government, is held every other Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Seymour Union, at SUNY Brockport College campus. (One program - the Mexican Holiday - will be at the Tower Fine Arts Lobby.) There are no age limits, no advance signups, and no cost to the public. Cool Kids usually lasts about an hour. Free parking is available. more
Grief management workshop offered at North Chili Church
Through Tears to Triumph, a conference helping people who have suffered grief through death or other losses, and to guide people who are helping those who have suffered, will be held Saturday and Sunday, September 29 and 30, at Faith Baptist Church of North Chili, 2954 South Union Street, Rochester. more
Hamlin plans 2002 celebrations
The Hamlin Wheel Fest Committee has held their first planning meeting for the 2002 celebration. Next year's event will be held Friday, May 31 and June 1. The event is expected to be bigger and better due to the cooperation between the Hamlin Fire Department who will be celebrating their 75th Anniversary and the Town of Hamlin Sesquicentennial celebrating 150 years. more
Monroe County Farm Bureau holds annual meeting
The Monroe County Farm Bureau will hold its annual meeting at the Whittier Road Party House on Wednesday, October 10. The evening events will start with a social hour at 6:00 p.m., and dinner at 7:00 p.m. Howie Jacobson of the High Falls Brewery, will be the featured speaker. more
Police chief search committee makes recommendation
A citizens committee charged with helping the Village of Brockport narrow its search for a new police chief will submit a list of candidates to the village board at its workshop on September 24. more
Portion of Route 441 renamed
A portion of Route 441 from the intersection of East Avenue in Brighton to the Wayne County border shall be known as the Korean War Memorial Highway in honor of the men and women who fought in that war. more
Rally focuses on proposed soccer complex issues
A Public Rally in Greece Canal Park on Saturday, September 29, 2001 from 2 to 4 p.m. will put a focus on the proposed soccer complex. It will begin at Millennium Lodge (241 Elmgrove Road) parking lot. more
Salute to America at Frontier Field
The Boy Scouts of America will be holding a rally for patriotism on Sunday, September 23 at Frontier Field, in conjunction with Monroe County, local fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and other affiliated organizations. more
Salvation Army Service Group extends community outreach
The Churchville-Chili Service Unit of the Salvation Army sent six children to camp this past summer. Long Point Camp in Penn Yan has been operated by the Salvation Army since 1953 and expected 1,400 children this past summer. more
Sleepwear being collected for women's shelters
During October, which is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley Alumnae Association, in partnership with HSBC, is having a P.J. Round Up to collect sleepwear for area battered women shelters. more

announces 2001 candidates
The Town of Sweden Republican Committee has selected five candidates for the positions open for election in 2001. Three incumbents are endorsed in the upcoming election: Nat "Buddy" Lester for town supervisor; Rob Carges for town council and Gail DeToy for town clerk. The Republican Committee also endorsed two new candidates; Danielle Windus-Cook, who is running for town council, and William J. Cody, a candidate for Sweden Town Justice. more
