As boy awaits kidney transplant, his friends hold fundraiser
When Kyle Link was just 18 months old, he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Surgeons removed the kidney, and chemotherapy treatment was prescribed to eradicate the cancer. Unfortunately, the chemotherapy damaged the Greece boy's other kidney, leaving him with no kidney function, dependent on dialysis treatments. more

Officer Steven Brown of the Ogden Police Department has been working for the D.A.R.E. program for eight years. Six years ago he was talking to Spencerport teacher Fred Cardella and saying that he would not be doing the D.A.R.E. program next year because the program lost a major contributor. more
Diaz Chemical closing Holley plant
Diaz Chemical announced last week that it has ceased production at its Holley facility and they expect to spend the next two months cleaning up the Jackson Street site. The clean up includes cleaning lines and equipment and selling off chemicals that remain on-site. more

Hilton Fire Captain honored for heroism
Jeff Mullen, Hilton Fire Department Captain, will be honored at a luncheon Wednesday, May 28 at the Penfield Country Club, 1784 Jackson Road, Penfield. Mullen will receive the Kiwanis International Service Award from the Monroe County Fire Service for his heroic efforts March 30, 2003 while rescuing a man from an automobile that was inside a fully involved working house fire. more

Public Power Partnership to promote electric drive vehicles in New York
New York Power Authority (NYPA) trustees have created a $1.2 million fund to help the state's municipal and rural electric cooperative systems purchase electric and hybrid-drive vehicles for their municipal fleets. The program will be conducted in cooperation with the Municipal Electric Utility Association of New York State (MEUA), whose members serve 500,000 New York electricity consumers. more
Storytelling workshops offered at Ogden Farmers' Library
The Ogden Farmers' Library is accepting applications for participation in "Tales by Generation," a storytelling series that will be taught at the library this summer. Professional storytellers Peggy and Dave Hagen will conduct a six-week series of workshops during which participants will learn how to select, rehearse and perform stories for an audience. The session will end with two public performances in August. more
