Chapel Bells CD available
Starting last March, 12 focused, hard-working, handbell ringers started practicing music to put on a CD. St. Paul Lutheran Sr. Bell Choir wanted to "give back" something to the church, the members, and to the Lord. They decided a CD would be a long-lasting gift; and hopefully, if there were any proceeds, they would go directly to the new sanctuary fund. more

Clarkson continues to research Town Hall renovations
Putting together a committee to research the feasibility of several options for renovations to the Clarkson's Town Hall appears to be the next step in the process to upgrade the facility. more

DEC approves work plans for Brockport Creek tributary #3
The Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Health have been working with General Electric/Black and Decker, and 3M over the last several months to develop plans for further testing in Brockport Creek Tributary #3. On June 20, the DEC held a public availability session to solicit comments on the draft plans. In response to comments on the plans, GE/Black & Decker, and 3M/Dynacolor have submitted new work plans that include significant revisions. more

Hamlin Lions sponsor poster contest for youths
Hamlin area youngsters ages 11-13 years as of November 15, 2001 are invited to participate in the Lions Club International's Peace Poster Contest. The Hamlin Lions Club, through the Hamlin Recreation Department, sponsors this free program. more

Hamlin residents invited to star party
The Astronomy section of the Rochester Academy of Science is hosting a free public viewing on Wednesday, October 17 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. The viewing will take place at Northampton Park (near the ski lodge) on Hubbell Road off Rt. 31 in Ogden. The residents of Hamlin are invited to join them on this outing. more

Harmony XXII to benefit National MS Society
Harmony XXII will bring to Webster and surrounding communities an evening of musical entertainment, designed to please the ears of young and old. The Melo-Wives of Webster and the Rochester Saenger Chor originated this event in 1979, giving the community a concert annually for 22 years. These two groups have been joined through the years by the Eastman Kodak Total Sound and the Hilton Baptist Church Choirs. The Webster Schroeder High School Jazz Choir has been invited for the fifth year to make a guest appearance. more

Hilton Board of Ed approves capital project
The Hilton Board of Education unanimously approved a $58 million capital project at its October 9 meeting. The issue will go before the public for approval on December 4. more

Hilton man called as Bishop
Benjamin Griffiths has been called to serve as Bishop of the Brockport Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints located at 4088 Lake Road, Brockport. Bishop Griffiths, his wife, JoAnn, and children, Chantel, Veronica, Nicole, B.J., and Monica, reside at 204 Curtis Road, Hilton. more

Naval Guard change of command in Brockport
The New York Naval Militia had its Change of Command Ceremony on September 29 at the Navy Club, in Brockport. Soon after, new Commander Bruce Speller had the responsibility of sending 67 Naval Militia members from the area to Ground Zero in New York City to perform duties as perimeter guard in relief of fellow Naval Militia members currently on site. They will remain there for two weeks. More recalls are expected. more

Phantom to benefit the Alzheimer's Association
Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera and Private Theatre Party, will be the theatrical event of the season on Saturday evening, November 24, when the Alzheimer's Association commemorates 20 years of service in the nine-county Finger Lakes region. more

Photos of Ogden and Spencerport wanted
Patty Uttaro, Director of the Ogden Farmers' Library, is collecting photos, old and new, which depict events and scenery located in Ogden and Spencerport. These photos will be used for two projects currently underway in the area. One project is the publication of a book called Images of Ogden and Spencerport that is being written by the Ogden Historical Committee. This group needs pictures of people, places and things from the 1940s through to the present time. Pictures that show the development of the town and villages are especially needed. more

Salvation Army needs local volunteers
Since the World Trade Center disaster, many volunteers have focused their attention to New York City needs. Those needs will continue for months to come. The Salvation Army has committed both workers and resources to meeting those critical needs. more

Second anonymous benefactor may gift Sweden
Earlier this year, an anonymous benefactor gifted the Town of Sweden with $100,000 to be used to develop an indoor recreational facility. Those funds were invested, awaiting the time. Sweden would be prepared to buy, build or lease a recreational facility. more

Spencerport ambulance answers NYC call
They have answered mutual aid calls in the past from across the state – wildfires on Long Island, ice storms in Potsdam and Watertown. When the Spencerport Ambulance Corps got the call for assistance in the aftermath of the World Trade Center attack, like others who’ve been to Ground Zero during the past month, they were unprepared for the devastation they encountered. more

Sweden sets budget hearing
The Town of Sweden will hold a public hearing on October 23 regarding its proposed 2002 budget. The hearing will take place at 7 p.m. at the town hall, 18 State Street. more

Sweden's skate park construction begins
The Town of Sweden has begun construction of a skate park at its Redman Road facility. The binding will be laid on October 23, according to Highway Superintendent Craig Smith, the topping and finish will be applied in the spring. more

Tax decrease predicted for Town of Clarkson residents
The proposed 2002 budget for the Town of Clarkson will mark the seventh year in a row that taxpayers have either seen their tax rates decrease or remain flat. more

American Legion sponsors oratory contest
The American Legion is committed to America's youth and in mid-November will hold its annual oratorical contest based on some part of the Constitution of the United States emphasizing what it means to be a citizen. While preparing for this contest, students will come to better understand American heritage and the natural rights of liberty which they have inherited. more

Boys State Reps honored by Noone Post
Boys State is a hands-on five day training program held annually at SUNY Morrisville. It is sponsored by American Legion Posts across the State of New York. The objective is to familiarize qualified high school boys in the functions of state government and how it operates. The 1,000 delegates elect a governor and all other offices. They then proceed into mock sessions, including, but not limited to budgetary, law making, committees and senate/representative interactions. more

National Robinson, chair of the Great Lakes Commission, will be the speaker at the Annual Community Salute to the Environment sponsored by the Center for Environmental Information on Wednesday, October 24 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Rochester. more

Chili taxes to drop a half percent
The 2002 Chili Town Budget includes a decrease in the town tax rate for the second year in a row. The proposed budget calls for a .5 percent reduction in Chili's Town Tax Rate - matching the tax cut passed last year. more

Churchville F.D. Open House to feature Child I.D. kits
The Churchville Fire Department will be holding their annual Open House on Sunday, October 14, from noon until 4 p.m. at 25 East Buffalo Street, Churchville. Child Identification Kits with photos and fingerprinting are a new feature this year. These kits will aid emergency personnel in finding lost or abucted children. more

CTSO celebrates anniversary
A special 25th anniversary party was held in honor of the Citizens To Save Ogden on September 24, at the Ogden Town Hall Library Meeting Room. It was attended by many past and present officers and executive board members from over the last 25 years. A memory board was displayed which had articles, pictures, meeting minutes, and similar items depicting the events of the growth and success of the CTSO. more

Monroe County residents and civic groups are invited to help clean-up and inspect the Erie Canalway Trail on Saturday, October 20, from 9 a.m. to noon. more

A new law to increase penalties for criminals who use bulletproof vests in the commission of a crime goes into effect November 1, 2001, according to Assemblyman Charlie Nesbitt (R, C-Albion). more

Brockport settles teachers' contract
After fifteen months without a contract, the Brockport Central School District and the Brockport Teachers Association reached a settlement last month. The new five-year contract is retroactive to July 1, 2000 - the date the previous three-year contract had expired. more

Hilton students offer patriotic concert
Hilton students will present a Musical Salute to America on Thursday, October 25 at 7 p.m. The free concert will be held at the high school. more

SUNY Empire State College to hold information session
Empire State College of the State University of New York will hold a public information session about its graduate programs on Tuesday, October 23 at 6 p.m. at the college's Genesee Valley Center, 1475 Winton Road North, Rochester. more

Students at Taylor School raise money for terror victims
The students at Terry A. Taylor School in Spencerport recently held a penny drive for the victims of the terrorist attacks. HSBC agreed to match the dollar amount that the students donated. more

Traditional Mexican holiday celebrated at SUNY Brockport
El Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, combines indigenous American practices, Western beliefs and the traditional celebration of All Saints and All Souls Days, as well as local harvest rites in honoring the memory of departed loved ones. more

Adult sports offered by Hilton-Parma Recreation
Men's Over Thirty Basketball is a Hilton-Parma Recreation offering organized at a pace that fits the needs of all participants. This program meets from 8:30-10 p.m. on Tuesday nights at the Hilton Schools. Pre-registration is a must at a cost of $30. The program runs until December 18. more

Basketball hoops plentiful in Parma
Over three dozen first and second grade youth are participating in this fall's Listen and Learn Basketball (LLB) program sponsored by Hilton-Parma Recreation and coordinated by Coach Ory Mee, his Hilton Central coaching staff, and several of his basketball players. This instructional program is designed for youth to learn the game in a fun and exciting way. more
