New Parma animal shelter open
Since opening its doors October 12, it has been raining cats and more cats at the Kathleen Tenny Animal Shelter. The shelter, located at 1215 Hilton Parma Corners Road, has received over a dozen cats, but is home to only one dog so far. more

Parma receives assessment aid from state
The Town of Parma recently received $29,435 in state aid for quality assessment practices. That money will help the town to fund an annual assessment program. more

Brockport Fire Department call volume up
In the past two weeks alone, the Brockport Fire and Ambulance Department have responded to more than 130 calls. "In the last two weeks we've had 70 fire jobs and 60 ambulance calls," Fire Chief Greg Wing said. more

Chili sewer project begins
Groundbreaking took place recently on Phase I of the Sanitary Sewer project to serve the Union Street area north of the West Shore rail line and south of King Road, an area of approximately 300 acres. more

Hill School raises money for Brockport Toy Shelf
For eight years, the fourth and fifth grade students at the Fred W. Hill School have raised money during the holiday season through their Nickels for the Needy event. The students collect money that they place in baskets located around the school. This year, the students raised $232. more

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded more than $1 million to the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, a college of Rochester Institute of Technology, to promote access and inclusion for deaf and hard-of-hearing students in postsecondary education. more

Driver improvement course offered
The 50 Alive Mature Driving Course is a two-session driver improvement and refresher course for adults age 50 and older. The course is New York state approved, with qualifying participants receiving a discount on their automobile insurance. The fee for the eight-hour course is $10 per person. more

Office for the Aging mails HEAP applications
The Monroe County Office for the Aging has mailed Home Energy Assistance Program grant applications to seniors who have previously contacted the office for assistance. In past years, the Office for the Aging has completed the application process by telephone. more
