An old fashioned Christmas event is now a tradition in Brockport, as the Candlelight Walk celebrates it's 4th year. "It's a success because we live in a community filled with generous givers to help those in need," says Inga Songbird, organizer of this event. more

Coping with grief during the holidays
David and Joy Rose of Hamlin told how the Rose family has traditionally celebrated the Christmas holiday. The children and grandchildren gather at their house after Christmas eve services for oyster stew, homemade cookies and the exchange of presents. The festive season really would start much earlier with a day on which Joy, their daughter, Debbie Molnar of Spencerport and her young daughter, Erica, would make those cookies. more

Day full of activities at December 6 Santa's Workshop Festival
Gillam Grant's 26th Annual Santa's Workshop Festival will be held at the Center, 6966 West Bergen Road, Bergen. The event, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, features low price gifts for children and adults in the Kid's Store and library, a Granny's Attic, Sugarplum Shoppe, Mrs. Claus's Kitchen, used book sale and raffles. more

Entries sought in Orleans Chamber's photo contest
The Orleans County Chamber of Commerce invites photo entries that represent Orleans County for use in various publications, including the Chamber's 2004 Directory and the new Orleans County Travel Guide. More than 60 photos were submitted from area residents last year, according to Marketing & Tourism Committee Chair Mary Fudge. more

Four historic homes open up for holiday tour
Take a step back into time and see what 19th Century life was like in Clarkson during the annual Holiday Homes Tour sponsored by the Clarkson Historical Society. On Saturday, December 13 from 1 to 4 p.m., four historic homes in the Town of Clarkson will be opening their doors to the public as a part of this popular tour. more

New home for Ogden
Highway Department nears completion

“This has been a long time coming,” said Ogden Highway Superintendent Dave Widger about the town’s new 55,000 square feet Ogden Highway Department Building. Ground was broken June 13 and it is anticipated that the complex will be finished by the end of December. LeChase Construction is the project manager and several subcontractors work for them. more

Orleans Chamber hosts legislative luncheon
A legislative luncheon hosted by the Orleans County Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for Thursday, December 11 at Tillman's Village Inn in Childs. The luncheon provides the opportunity to discuss business priorities for Albany, hear what our legislators anticipate during session and have your questions about state government answered. more

Ribbon cutting at Kendall's new Salt Storage Facility
A ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday, November 22 at the Kendall Highway Department, 1776 Crandall Avenue, Kendall, celebrated the town's newly constructed Salt Storage Facility. This facility, possibly the tallest building in the hamlet, is the first of its kind in Orleans County, according to town officials. more

The Spencerport Community Chorus will present its annual Winter Concert on Saturday, December 6 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, December 7 at 3 p.m. Both concerts are held at the First Congregational Church (the Historic White Church) on Church Street in Spencerport. The concerts are free, with baskets available for donations. more

Girl Scouts make a splash at Pettis Pools
Hillwood Girl Scouts (Hilton and North Greece) joined with Pettis Pools on Manitou Road for a successful cookie sale delivery. A forklift unloaded about 21,500 boxes of cookies at the Pettis warehouse and adult Girl Scout volunteers sorted and stacked orders for pickup. more

Hamlin tree lighting ceremony December 6
The Friends of the Hamlin Public Library will sponsor the annual tree lighting ceremony in the Town of Hamlin on December 6 on the library grounds. Activities will begin at 3:30 p.m. with a story hour in the library. more

Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony set
The 12th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at the Hilton Village Community Center gazebo on Saturday, December 6. According to event coordinator Joe Lee, this traditional event will begin at 7 p.m. with Hilton's "Citizen of the Year" Doug Hurlbutt lighting the tree, followed by Denny and Her Escorts leading the caroling - and, of course, hot chocolate for all. more

Living Nativity returns to Pearce
