Over 100 people took the time to write postcards of support to Ismail Adylov, a designated prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International. The Brockport Chapter of Amnesty International has received notification of Adylov's release from prison following a presidential pardon. more

Hamlin residents speak out against radio tower proposal
About 50 people turned out for an informational meeting to hear and talk about a proposed 340-foot radio tower in Hamlin. George Kimball, owner of Canandaigua Broadcasting Company, is hoping to erect the tower on land that the company has secured an option to lease directly southwest of 65 Wiler Road. more

Holley residents pursue lawsuit against Diaz
Residents of Holley, both current and former, have banded together to sign retainers in a class action lawsuit against Diaz Chemical. The lawsuit is being filed because of a January 5 incident which leaked 80 gallons of chemicals into the community. more

Public input sought on Chili's Routes 33 and 259
proposed intersection reconstruction plan
The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) will be hosting a public meeting next month to discuss the proposed safety improvements to the intersection of Routes 33 and 259 in the Town of Chili. more

Scottish theme for RWCCO's February Concert
For their winter concert, the Roberts Wesleyan College-Community Orchestra will present music of homage to Scotland. On Friday, February 1, music director Nyela Basney will conduct the RWCCO as they play Mendelssohn's "Scottish Symphony." more

Director of Human Resources named at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES
Kim Lewis, supervisor in the Department for Exceptional Children at Monroe 2-Orleans BOCES, was appointed Director of Human Resources by the Board of Education at its January 15 board meeting. Lewis is expected to begin her new duties on February 11. more

degree program coming to GCC
An Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree program in Fitness and Recreational Sports Management will be part of Genesee Community College's offerings, pending approval by the State University of New York and the New York State Education Department. The college hopes to officially launch the program this fall. more

The SUNY Brockport gymnastics team is ranked second in the country (as of January 23) after winning the Brockport Invitational Saturday. more

Clark named SUNYAC Player of the Week
The women's SUNYAC Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on January 20 is Kristen Clark (Hilton) according to the State University of New York Athletic Conference officials. more

Fackelman leads Bees
Byron-Bergen jumped out to a 13-3 lead, never trailed and won 52-47 in a girl's basketball game over Elba January 17. The Lady Bees didn't make a single shot from the field in the second quarter but were 11-12 from the free-throw line in the half to maintain a six-point lead at the break. more

Grillo, Doty, Goeres pins lead Holley
Top ranked Holley hosted second-ranked Kendall January 15 in wrestling and the Hawks were 43-29 victors to remain undefeated at 7-0 for the season. more

Rangers win team title in
Clayton Barnard Tournament
Number 1 ranked Spencerport had seven finalists in the 22nd Annual Clayton Barnard Wrestling Tournament held in Hilton the weekend of January 18. The Rangers won the team title for the eleventh time in thirteen years. more

SUNY Brockport's Golden Eagles win Chase
It took 27 years for the Brockport Golden Eagle men's basketball team to have area bragging rights. It was before Cabbage Patch Kids, CD's (the music variety) and economy cars. Now, ranked fifth in Division III in national polls, Brockport defeated the R.I.T. Tigers 78-58 to win the 36th annual JP Morgan Chase Basketball Tournament for the first time since 1975. more

The Victors gymnasts compete at Leatherstocking Invitational
The Victors gymnasts dominated the competition on January 19, at the 16th Annual Leatherstocking Invitational Meet held at Proctor High School in Utica. The meet was sponsored by The Valley Gymnastics Club. The level sevens took the first place team award and level fives took the third place team award. more
